| Quote christopher="christopher"Oh and Id give mcllenan (thats probably spelt wrong!) a run against Salford, cant be any worse than Myler'"
Thought Lolohea was even worse to be honest.
Sutcliffe was targeted defensively, and to be fair did a hell of a lot of defence, thought he had a good game. But 7 missed tackles again for second week running.
Stats wise, we missed a lot more tackles than sky showed last night.
Interesting the Dwyer and Parcell debate, because ball in hand we certainly looked more mobile with Dwyer, but defensively we looked much tougher with Parcell.
Thought Hurrell (who looks the best centre in super league by miles), Peteru, Sutcliffe, and again Donaldson looked very good. Thought our wingers looked horrendously bad, and Watkins and the halfs poor.
Overall though, you can see the improvements clearly, and where we will go as the season progresses. Officials and luck was definitely the difference in winning and losing last night.

| For me last week I was very worried, because if our pack got rolled like that every week we’re looking straight down the barrel of another relegation battle.
This week I’m frustrated with the execution and errors, but I know some of the players making them are better than that, which gives hope.
Plenty of effort on show.
Another plus for me was that the changes Furner made had a positive impact.
I can now see us winning some games against SL opposition, which I couldn’t towards the back end of last year. Still looks like we need to change around 1/3 of the first team to compete at the top again though.

| Quote Marty Grrrrrrrrrr!="Marty Grrrrrrrrrr!"Young Callum needs time to play rugby league again. He shouldn't be rushed into 1st team cos he's not ready for it.
Lolohea and Myler are unfortunately our best options at this moment in time...I know.....hard to believe isn't it?
Too many dropped balls and missed tackles tonight, tho I thought the effort was there and we had more threat with the ball than last week at Wire.
Ferres and Peteru the big pluses for me tonight. Thought both went well. Ferres has never been able to train consistently while at Leeds but he seems healthier, looks a lot thinner and I was pleased to see him go well tonight. As we all know he has ability but we've not seen it at Leeds.
We have a lot of work ahead but too early to start panicking.
We're in rebuild mode folks and it's going to take a while. That's the reality.
I say it most weeks but we simply have to get our young kids thru over next few years. It's a priority.'"
Lolohea will find better form as the year goes on I think. Myler I’ve never been a fan of as a player throughout his career, and I was disappointed when we signed him (although could see the rationale at the time).
Some nice touches from him running to be fair though.
Who would you bring in from the Academy ranks next then? And any changes to the side for Salford, or is last nighy’s side about right do you think?

| Prop forward department has to be top priority for the recruitment department along with a top winger. We lack power up front and someone with real pace out wide.
Tui looks a month off full match fitness same with Watkins so we need to be patient. Myler needs to book his ideas up or he needs to go. I think we needed go get shut and should have brought Drinkwater in during the off-season.

| There won't be many changes to the team for Salford. To put it into context we've lost away to the 2 teams who made the grand final last year. When we was in our pomp we lost at both those places. Unfortunately we simply aren't at that level at the moment and need to have patience as we rebuild. It's going to take time.
We've a good group of kids who need to given their heads gradually over next couple of seasons. Cam Smith should be in the 17 every week, Mikolaj should continue to be allowed to progress as he is and the younger lads like Corey Johnson, Holroyd, Trout, Newman, Muizz, McLelland and possibly Dupree should all be drip fed on the bench over the course of this season just to give them a taste of it and see how they handle it. In 3 or 4 years these lads need to have the experience so they are regular Super League players for Leeds.
It's early days and the team will improve Lolohea isn't a 6 but he's our best option at the moment and needs to be given time there.

| Last week it was the forwards losing the collision and being poor around the ruck. This was largely fixed against Wigan - to the point that we were dominant for large parts of the first half and held our own defensively under serious pressure in the second. I thought most of the forwards were good, aside from Merrin being brushed off for Bullock's try (did he come back on the field after that?).
This week the main problems seem to lie with the halves - poor execution on kicks in particular (Myler two poor games in a row, despite looking a bit sparkier with the ball in hand), and poor last tackle plays in general. I'm not sure if Myler is the kind of half Leeds need at the moment. He's too inconsistent with ball in hand and is too easily exposed defensively; at least Burrow was more dependable.
Walker had a nightmare in all aspects of his game (positioning, handling, passing, tackling - do I need to go on?), but we can just about make some allowances here for his age. If other players are being rested or put on the bench for poor performances, what do we do with Walker? It might be a good idea to give him another shot, but I wouldn't blame the coach from bringing in Golding.
Lolohea picked up the ball nicely in broken play but seems to have lost the ability to go into 5th gear - his highlights reel suggests this is something he could have done in the past. Not sure if he's out of condition, just lost pace, confidence or what... Got to cut out those slow looping long passes that everyone can telegraph. I think he needs more time rather than dropping.
Otherwise the backs (Hurrell included) seemed to over-cook things and make brain-farts with McNamara-era Bulls regularity... A bit of composure and we could have easily been ahead at half-time, and even won the game, but at the same time we can't have too many qualms about the result. A bit more time playing together will improve these things.
Lots of green shoots despite the scoreline... I'm less worried about the forwards now with Crosby to come back in and some of the older heads to be rotated in the back row. The spine has to be a serious concern going forward though...
1. Walker - still learning and far from the finished article
6. Lolohea - some glimpses but not quite the hardened NRL pro we needed
7. Myler - has flattered to deceive since the start of last season
9. Dwyer/Parcell - some positive performances but still some way off the top players in the league

Nailed on you will sign Cameron King from Fev at some stage. He is better than many super league hookers.

| Whilst i think there are plenty of valid opinions re-our HB pairing they've only played 2 competitive games together with a young kid linking at FB & each game a different 9 started.
Id be very surprised if Furner chose to start changing that area of the Team.
I also completely agree with Marty re-youngsters ill also add i hope more fringe players are leaving asap so we can at least have money ready if a good prop becomes available.
I do think we have more to build on this week & the only change id make would be Cam Smith coming in for either Sutty or Donaldson.
I do hope Ferres maintains last nights form much better with & without the ball & Petaru looked very useful especially in his first stint.
Dwyer imo is our starting 9 & should remain so after last night.
The Walker/Golding debate has resurfaced & tbf on ladt nights performance rightly so but given how Furner is trying to intergrate our FB (just like Webb used to) i think Walker will be given more time plus AG is injured & on the "Available to depart" list.
One side issue i think looking at Watkins in particular & others still come back it highlights a need for a reserve grade.

Saw this mentioned elsewhere yesterday we dont need him mate unless Dwyer is deemed surplus.
Parcell leaves at the end of this year that leaves us with Dwyer & Corey Johnson who is going to be a top quality 9 for us if he lives up to his potential.

| Agree with Marty and plenty of others saying we need to be patient. Apart from 2018 win at wire I don't think we have won there since 2011 semi and not at Wigan since semi in 2012 (may be wrong). I was encouraged last night. We got nothing off Thaler , which is becoming a habit if his. We made a lot of dumb errors and the team including spine is very raw. Despite all that we were in the game. The key error which took it away from us was Dwyer's charge down early in second half which led to them having 5/6 sets on our line with only 2 plays for us as respite, Parcell then lost ball in tackle.
Watkins is still coming back but thought Sutcliffe did really well and made some vital tackles.
Wigan have a quality, experienced spine and are simply better than us.
We will get better but it could be a year or two or three to really get there.
Callum Mc has not played a single game of pro RL, the last thing we need with a raw FB, new SO, new coach and other new players is a rookie SH. Myler made 2 poor kicks but those 2 halves need more time together.
Loads to work on but I think we need to take a view.
Regarding Cam Smith, he'll get plenty of chance as season rolls on, he has not yet got through or close to a full SL season, happy Furner brings him through gradually. I could see Smith playing a bit at SO before the season is out with possibly tui at 1

| Good stats from Merrin again, and Peteru. No other forward made anywhere close to 100m though.
Sutcliffe made 35 tackles, but missed 7. That's a worry and needs fixing asap, but I thought his defence improved from last week
