Quote Gotcha="Gotcha"Funny you should say that. I went last night, and I agree on quality of the league, however there is absolutely no doubt that in Powell Cas have by far and away the best coach in Super League. The guy is quality, and proven wherever he goes. If only we had gone for him a few years back, we would have still had the GF wins, shown a proper future, and wouldn't have been taken backwards 17 years.'"
Revisionist nonsense.
Firstly, "gone backwards 17 years", means what exactly? From now? Are you saying we're on a par with the 1998 team, beaten in the inaugural Grand Final and 2nd in the league table. Is that so bad?
Or back 17 years from when Powell left, taking us to 1987? You think things are as bad as they were in 1987?
Leaving your hyperbolic statements aside, "minibus" (translation; half a coach) as he was known by some of his players at the time won no trophies and has still won no trophies. He was such a hot property in the game after being replaced by Smith that his only options for several years were pity jobs Hetherington gave him until Featherstone came knocking.
I say this not to bash Powell, who has, undoubtedly, done a great job at both Rovers and Cas but to challenge the fiction you've written about what he "could" have, theoretically, done at Leeds.
