| One thing is for sure a few people on this thread were having a go at Wigans leaking defence, wonder if they still hold the same opinion after the last 2 games?

It's defence like that which will win you the title. How many times you hold someone up over the line?

| For all of those who are wetting themselves at the supposed demise of this Leeds team i urge you to take a look at the Blue Square Premier. A team, Oxford, were around 15 points clear about half way through the season. Unfortunately for Oxford titles aren't awarded till the end of May. As the business end of the season comes about they have shot their load and are now down to 3rd and 8 points of top. My point is just because a team is flying early in the season it doesn't mean a thing when push comes to shove. I still have full confidence that come October Leeds will be in the playoffs and will be the team nobody wants to play.

But will the Leeds faithful remain watching a Bradford mark III, (mark II was Wigan under Noble).

| After 9 rounds in 2005 that year's Champions were lying in 7th place having lost 5/9 and only just having a positive points difference.

just in the middle cluster of also rans.
Not to mention once we get to the playoffs the grand finalists and winners come from the top most of the time.'"
That's my point, history shows we have had a good run as regards to injuries. What if the other teams above us were to suffer the same, now or closer to the end of the season? We are hanging on, with key personnel coming back with more to follow for sure but that could change. Keep the faith.

| History is yesterday's news.
No team had ever won 3 consecutive GFs prior to last October but that didn't stop us.

| Just watching the replay tonight. Wigans defence is so tough. Another 2 tries saved by hoilding up over the line tonight.

That's true, a team has come from outside the top 6 at this stage to win the Grand Final once in 12 seasons.
No-one has ever done it from 9th at this stage though, fortunately for Leeds the Crusaders game was postponed otherwise Leeds could have been 10th tonight.
SL Grand Final Winners' League Position after 9 Rounds:
5 - 1st (St Helens, Bradford, Leeds)
3 - 2nd (Wigan, St Helens, Bradford)
2 - 3rd (Leeds)
1 - 5th (St Helens)
1 - 7th (Bradford)

SL Grand Final Winners' League Position after 9 Rounds
And until 2003 nobody outside the top 2 had even reached the Grand Final. The consensus seems to be that the competition is evening itself out. If that's the case then winners from lower down the final table will become increasingly common.
I may be biaised, but taking into account the level of injuries and disruption the squad has suffered so far and the (on paper) quality of the squad overall I'd have thought Leeds are still a very good bet to finish a number of positions higher and have a strong finish to the season. If they reach the final they have far more big game experience than any of the other squads with only the Saints squad comparable.
Current position isn't a big concern for me - the form of Wigan etc will dropp off at some point and a fully fit Leeds squad will be a very different proposition. The concern is whether the squad can summon the collective mental focus and desire to mount a surge up the table to be capped with strong paly offs and Grand Final performances after having won for the last 3 years.

| Odds on winning Grand Final from Betfred (Man Utd fan so don't give him your money!!)
Leeds 5-2
Wigan 3-1
Saints 100/30
Warrington 9/2
Hudds 9-1
Hull 22-1
Bulls 40-1
Wakey 66-1
Hull KR 66-1
Cas 100-1
Quite how their odds compilers can come up with those odds baffles me!
Bulls at 40-1 is a joke, and even I'm tempted on a small wager at those odds.
Hypothetically, if this was the 1st ever season, and no historical form to go on, I'd expect Leeds to be bigger than 20-1 based on current table
I'm still confident Leeds will reach play offs.
