| Maybe Ganson played it a million times to make sure that all of the fans, even the most stupid and short sighted could see it was a knock on.

Seriously, can you point me to where in the rules it says that a grubber has to be hit on the volley?
I'm 99% sure there's no valid basis for such an interpretation in the rules.

| The ball certainly hit the ground a fraction before the ball was kicked there is no doubt about that. Watching the replay i hoped it wouldn't be given and honestly wasn't sure which way the call would go. For an objective and un-biased opinion listen to what McRae said in the commentry. He called it a knock on, by the narrowest of margins though.
You really turned up on friday and were unlucky not to come away with the points. Good luck for the rest of the season.

| You were the better team on Friday no doubt about that, but, as you lot will know, its a sign of champion side to play below par and win which is what we have done countless times this season.

| Just watching Super League Show and neither the obviosuly dubbed on commentary or any of the guests in the studio mentioned the forward pass for Richards' try.
I don't know why I bother watching.

The Laws of the Game (as found on the RFL website) don't specifically define what is and isn't a "drop kick".

Exactlly we seem to be inventing new rules...also the laws on knock-ons/forward passes are
So what part of that did McGuire infringe?
He didn't deliberately knock or pass forward (he dropped the ball from his hands to his foot) and if he had it'd be a penalty...it wasn't.
He didn't "knock on accidentally" so the clause in 10.2 about the ball kicking the ball before it hit the floor is not relevant.

He did knock on accidentally.
He intended to kick the ball. It hit the floor before his foot. Hence an accidental knock on.

That's a circular argument though - the rules are fairly clear... after an accidental knock on the player can kick it before it hits the floor. So how can the knock on become accidental retrospectively?
Also I refer back to the definition of a knock on [i"means to knock the ball towards the opponents’ dead ball line with hand or arm, while playing at the ball"[/i (from the glossary of the RL Laws)
I'm genuinely curious as to the basis in the Laws for Gansons decision. As far as I understand the wording of the laws the only options available should have been a penalty for a "deliberate" knock on (which would be ludicrous, it's not like McGuire gained any advantage from the ball hitting the floor a fraction of a second before his foot hit it) or play on

| Correct call for me. He intended to drop the ball, but I don't believe he intended to let it hit the ground before it hit his foot. I can see both arguments, but I think having referred it to the video ref it had to be no try.
Also, the pass for the last Wigan try looked forward on the replays, but I've seen worse (like ours at home to Saints) and at that speed I have no real complaints about that either. Some are given, some are not. That's life.

| Based on the video evidence I'd have given the McGuire 'try' as the ball didn't clearly hit the floor first, IMO. When it's simultaneous in frame by frame advance that's much too close to rule against the attacking side - where we have 'benefit of doubt' as an option. It looked like Alibert was of the same mind initially before he had it changed for him.
I like having the video referee but sometimes it makes a mockery of the non televised games where such a score would almost certainly have been awarded.
__________
In other news I'd have initially ruled the Richards involvement in the Hoffman try a 'knock on' right up until the final angle from behind the sticks which showed it was a deliberate knock back and play on.
The pass from Carmont to Richards (for once) I'm in agreement with the Sky commentary team.
