| Quote: tvoc "I checked back to 1959 so that covered that possibility.
Any earlier than that 40+ scores were much more of a rarity than in the 'modern' game.'"
Couldn't remember fully, but do remember the losing run and the stuffing at home to warrington before he was sacked. Remember everyone on the pitch shouting for "Foxy out".

| That's a stat that surprises me tvoc, given how bad Leeds were at times under the likes of Dewhirst and Fox.
Always seemed to be towards the end of seasons when we got good hidings - a John Woods inspired Leigh, Bob Beardmore beating us on his own at Cas, trips to Odsal over Easter.

| Even when we won we were boring under Fox. Apart from a particularly excellent league win over Widnes at home.
In the Dewhirst days it was still the 3 point try which may have helped (apart from the start of the 83/84 season before he was replaced by Mo). In fairness to Dewhirst we topped the table for much of the 82/83 season, in fact we were 4 points clear of Hull with around a third of the season to go. This of course coincided with the time I started to go to games. The rest is as they say..... history.

Me too. Just shows how relatively rare it is to concede 40+ in consecutive games (Leeds have managed this five times now during the SL Era (515 games) - twice under Coach Bell in 1996, once under Coach Lance in 2000, Coach Powell in 2001 and Coach McDermott in 2011)
While the treble has so far eluded Leeds the final four games in '96 came close with a succession of non defensive performances that were truely cringeworthy - 56, 68, 28, 64. Even in the targetted game from the sequence V Workington they leaked 28 which in itself was a major improvement.

The hiding at Leigh I immediately remember was a 51-2 mauling in 82/83 but I also recall that quite incredibly the following week virtually the same Leeds side went to Wigan and won 12-9 in the first round of the Premiership ..... you couldn't make it up.

That's the one I was thinking of.
Seem to remember Leeds taking a hiding a few years later (might have been at Odsal) and then going to Hull KR with a virtual reserve side including Paul Gill and John Holmes in the midweek and winning?
Wierd how some games just stick in your memory - a win at home to Widnes in the early 80s with Tony Binder at full-back, Mark Campbell and David Heselwood in the second row and Phil Owen (or was it Phil Turner) at prop?

| Andy
that win always sticks in my mind too, think campbell played loose forward. Was nearly as much a scratch side as the one that beat cas on international weekend recently.
another from the hesselwood era was beating hull with a late kevin dick penalty which he won himself with an excellent dive.
as a third remember going to widnes when it was snowing in leeds & glorious weather on arrival. Dave heron had a blinder for the win that day.

I recall being sat in the main stand at Hilton Park that day and being continuously ridiculed by the home fans throughout the game
Oh happy days

| I heard the Hull KR win on the radio - if that's the game where Whitehead scored a goal? We played them in the Premiership (was it even the next game??) and got mullered 54-0 or something. I remember that game very clearly, as it was my first visit to Craven Park.

| I was at the Leigh hiding too, however the saving grace was that my Dad said I looked that fed up afterwards he bought me a "Wagon Wheel". It was the first time I'd had one and it cheered me up no end.
By the way, how small are Wagon Wheels now compared to then ? When I had my first one it must have taken me half an hour to eat it !

It's an optical illusion - the Wagon Wheels are the same size, just your hands and mouth are bigger.

| It would probably be better all round if he went to a club willing to pay top dollar for a player who has been one of the game's genuine stars, with Leeds then able to try to perm a winning combination in the threequarters from Smith, Hall, Hardaker, BJB and Watkins. If Senior goes I'd be surprised if Webb left as well without an external replacement, as three of our prospects haven't played a lot of first team.
