| I'm not sure anyone doesn't want JJB to succeed in the short term. But we must avoid the risk of an 'interim' coach getting good/OK results leading to their permanent appointment, the inevitable longer-term disappointment and then back to square one. We've just seen exactly that with Agar, and its happened numerous times with other clubs.
The short-term is important, but fundamental changes are required and we need a high quality coach to get us there. Going cheap and/or in-house with yet another old boy seems the least likely way to succeed in the long term.

It's not just a Leeds thing, it's the approach across the game. Both in attack and defence 8, 10 and 13 play pretty much the same role these days across the board. You may have someone with better hands at 13, but the pivot at 13 doesn't happen. That extra pivot is at 1 these days. All middles do a ton of defense and will attack in similar phases and positions. I don't see why people on here have such a problem with it.

I think it's because Agar seemed to refer exclusively to the average plodders as middles ie Thompson and Donaldson and seemingly as a way of convincing himself (or anyone else) that they were appropriate in one of those 3 meter making high work rate positions. I can't remember him referring to Oledzki or prior as a middle?

I couldn't agree more. In sports, a team in the short-term can run on fumes of an increase in morale when a new coach comes in, but long-term success will always be achieved by quality coaching not just being likeable.
For years now, we go into the season with an inadequate coaching set up, screw the season up nice and early, waste the season trying to survive focusing only on the short-term then go into the next season and do it all again. Until we actually hire a quality coach, we just repeat the same mistakes and never actually move forward.
I think we as Leeds fans can accept that in one season we aren't just going to magically compete at the top, but we need to see a long-term plan and the club actually moving forward. Continuing with Agar again this season just reeks of accepting mediocrity. My patience is wearing thin now, not because we're not winning everything, but because the transition to us building a coaching line-up that can once again compete hasn't even started yet despite Brian McDermott leaving in 2018.
Stop-gap after stop-gap, constantly fire fighting, complete short-termism and having to buy cheap buy twice. I think it's fair to say the decision-making has been horrendous at the top.

Is he coaching the team or fixing the floodlights?

I understood him perfectly but then again Ive been in far too many marketing meetings where these type of daft analogies are common place

A truly cringeworthy effort I heard this week was "let's pop that one in the thought fridge for now".
Retirement can't come soon enough...

No issue with Donaldson. He's a hard worker, solid defender and has a heart of a lion. I don't feel the same about Thompson. Just mediocre in every department.

I really hope for both his sake and the clubs that his fluent "twaddleish" can lift the players. If so his reputation as a slightly bananas RL shaman will be cemented. If not he'll soon find out how very fickle fans can be and his coaching aspirations might suffer a huge setback. Hoping for the former.

| Rumours on Twitter is that there is unrest in the Hull KR camp, McGuire to come back to us as Number 2 to work with JJB then under whoever the new coach is.
And Sean Long to leave

Is this not exactly the sort of back to front decision making that's got us into this mess? A new head coach needs to have the freedom to bring in his own team.
No issues with Long leaving, he's been ineffective at best.

I suppose, although it doesn’t automatically mean it won’t work though. McGuire would be a big asset to the club IMO
Also saying Tony Smith wants to come back but wants a 4 year deal, Leeds want s 2 year deal with the idea McGuire takes over after those 2 years.
All sounds like BS to me!
