| Quote: Bobtownrhino "Seems to me to be a big loss to Leeds and RL
I would prefer Hetherington to retire and Sinny be allowed to restructure the club including bring the player recruitment policy up to the levels of the successful RL clubs.
Hetherington has not moved with the times and needs to retire. IMHO[/quo
I can understand your comments but you are wrong, at which stage would Kevin Sinfield be ever made CEO of the club.
As a player, he is without doubt a legend, a brilliant player for Rhinos, possibly the glue that held the team together. Now six years later we are still rebuilding, the jury is still out on what long term success he has brought to the club, he has not had sufficient time in this role to show us how good he actually is, the table shows we are 9th in the league, the continuing rebuilding of team is in the sixth year.
Has he been given a fair crack of the whip, has someone else been pulling the strings, make Sinfield CEO, but he still has little clout, Caddick and GH have all the power and also the shares. If GH was to retire, then between Caddick and GH they will be a legal agreement in place as to allowing Caddick to buy the shares. If not GH will simply pass down the shares to his son and daughter. The same with Caddick, he will either sell his shares to some well off individual or pass them down to the family. The people who own the shares are the decision makers. Whatever role Sinfield would end up with he would be always answerable to someone. Titles are firms mean little, its the shareholders who will make the decisions, in this case my thoughts are these people need to change attitudes.
Will it change, for change to happen attitudes have to change, there is no one better in SL than running a club on a tight budget than GH, for the future we have to either try and spend big or hope the kids who are coming through will be good enough.
Has Sinfield been given a fair crack of the whip, in terms of where the team is, 9th in the league he could have done better, has the board supported him i think the answer is no, they could have done better.

You think providing him with a playing budget significantly greater than any we had during his playing days and massively increasing the size of the coaching team and coaching budget were him not being supported? What more do you want? He was then in charge of deciding how to spend those budgets.

Sounds like he wanted to be coach without all the scrutiny that goes with it

| At least this is put in the open and we can all move on. Good luck to Kev hes paid his dues to Leeds. Some interesting posts on here with differing opinions.l believe that Kev has become frustrated with trying to run the playing side of the club at a time when outside factors have made progress difficult in terms of improving the team. His departure suggests that the next few years are going to be defined by careful financial management rather than additional investment. I suspect the urge to put his boots on and coach in a different environment was more fulfilling than his current role where the structure and potential investment means we are unlikely to challenge over the next couple of years and he would come under scrutiny in his role despite being handicapped in what he could actually deliver. In this scenario as well his son Jack may also come under pressure if we are still under performing in a couple of years time and he is in the first team squad. Essentially Kev is a winner and it does not look like we are going to win the superleague any time soon. I would be delighted if I have assessed this wrong and we build a good squad for next year but have low expectations

You know he's in charge of that shambles, right?

He has been the single most important individual to Leeds’ recent success. More than an coach or player. There is no one better than him in super league at what he does.
Yes, he can be cheap. Yes, there’s been a few dodgy signings over the years. But overall, what a difference he’s made!'"
He's probably been given credit for things that he shouldn't have and been given blame in similar fashion. Overall it's hard to look at his time at the club (so far) as anything but spectacularly successful. But all jobs are a team effort. Over time it's difficult to hang on to good people and sometimes you give responsibility to people who let you down.

| I’m gutted he’s going. But…
• the success of Leeds is going to be based on youth development. We are absolutely top-4 at all age groups below first grade and we have some outstanding talent. We will be fine.
• GH doesn’t half get some pantomime villain stick. I’m on record being critical of the abject ness the club got itself into after the Goldens retired. Overall though he has done a fantastic job with the club.
• KS is a true legend of a bloke. But if there isn’t a role for him at Leeds then what is the drama? Losing Agar as well would have been a big issue but if he’s staying (maybe taking Kev’s role) I’m happy enough.
Leeds is a very special club. Honestly I’m getting sick of doom mongers. RL will look very different with full stadiums, great games and a competitive Leeds side in the mix again.

| Not sure what to make of this.
On one hand the guy has done enough for Leeds as a player to get plenty of credits.
I always thought it was a gamble giving him the DOR gig at Leeds in which he made some good signings but also gave contracts out to his mates and made some bad signings admittedly at the start of his role.
The fact Leeds have spent big on new recruits is something I believe Kev engineered and maybe without him we wouldn`t have got these players.
Was he taking the club forward?
Possibly but would he have done it without the financial backing?
Has he used Leeds as a stepping stone to further his career?
Possibly not as he has gone from the Boardroom to the playing field.
In the end he has taken the decision to earn himself more money for a coaching role and maybe one day we will see him sat alongside the England RU coach.
On another note does Sinfield still own that club/bar near Oldham?
