| Quote: Mark Laurie "I agree with this in principle. However, I’m not sure GH has made a calm thought through choice and has someone lined up to come in.. if he has - fantastic. However, the tone and nature of what he has said leads me to think that Caddick has pulled the trigger here. If so we may not be able to get the right man until after the season ends.'"
Caddick actually doesn't have a say in that decision as far as I am aware. By say I mean pull the trigger. He can put a motion through, but I don't think his involvement is anything like it was. It is Hetheringtons decision to make, but he has been under pressure to do it for quite a long time from other directors, staff, and players, and why he renegotiatied the new deal for McDermott at end of 2016.

| Quote: Gallanteer "Brian Mac was also so successful at London, not.
He suddenly became the best ever coach at Leeds. In actual fact he coasted for many years on the back of a very successful squad built by Tony Smith. The last 3 years has seen the majority of this excellent squad leave or retire and their replacements have not been as good enough until at last this year, he has been found out. Just ask yourselves how many world class players left recently. Why is this Brian Macs fault? Poor recruitment.
FWIW Any time a club spends big off the field improving the stadia, they tend to do rubbish on the field. Happens in the boring round ball game as well.'"
One major fault in your argument is that at Leeds it is Hetherington who does the recruiting and he has starved McDemott of quality new recruits. It will be unfair on Mac if he now opens the purse strings for a new manager.

I have been told by usually reliable source, that both before the season began & when Keith Galloway departed that potential recruits had been lined up by GH, the first one being someone who would have been in the top bracket of earners.
McDermott on both occasions told GH that he was 100% happy with both the quality and depth of the squad and didn't need any additional players.
If this is the case and I no reason to doubt it then would not be unfair to Mac if the money in the purse is spent

You may well be right. If nobody is lined up (which appears to be the case) it just seems odd timing. Had they seen out either of the games v saints or Catalan I guess McD would still be there?
I think we needed a change but fine margins in many games this season.

It would depend on the quality of the recruits. I very much doubt Mac would turn down real quality.

| seeing as Powell was coach when his former team mates like hay and Sheridan were culled I can't see him having to finish the likes of jjb or ablett a problem

This seems to be lost on a lot of leeds fans to be honest. There is is also the issue of the number of players he has shipped out that would have been an improvement on what he replaced with at times.

The reason for no apparent plan for an immediate replacement is because it wasn't expected to be required as GH offered McD a release at the end of the season 'by mutual consent' to which McD refused to accept, effectively giving GH an ultimatum of 'back me now or sack me now'

| It doesn't stack up to me that the coach has no say in the signings Leeds make. I'm certain it would be a joint thing between GH and his coach.
Every time we made a signing McD used to say he had spoken with the player on the phone over a period of time. So to say he had no involvement can't possibly be true.

McDermott was clear at the time on his role in signing Keinhorst, Walters, Sutcliffe, Hauraki, Griffin, Ormondroyd, Moore, Yates, Vickery, and Achurch. So I would say he has had a fair amount of involvement.
