Quote: tvoc "The attendance was 12,344. Embarrassing turn-out all round but particularly from Wigan's supposed 18th man.'"

rlSportingliferl and rlSkysportsrl websites are still reporting the attendance last night as 8,235.

Shambolic that the Sky Sports website should be using a figure that doesn't correspond with the live Sky Sports broadcast on the night - but sadly all too predictable. I've no idea which was closest to the true figure but it looked sp enough to be a sub five figure attendance.

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you! - Winston Churchill:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_40515.jpg

Quote: William Eve "Nope, I'm quite sure that I said Leeds would beat the "whipping boy SL rabble" of Wakefield and Catalan. I'm also quite sure I said the Wigan game would be "tricky" as it indeed turned out to be, but not impossible. I'm also pretty sure that I mapped out Leeds easy route to the Grand Final from that beautifully crafted position of 5th with absolute precision and accuracy before the completion of Round 27.

Nope, I doubt he'll do that. In fact I know he won't do that. What I do know is Leeds are not providing value for money to season ticket holders with all the dross they serve up during the regular season and anyone who purchases one are being short-changed and taken for a mug. It is in GH's best interests to recognise this because season ticket sales will eventually suffer as a consequence. The team only turning up for the final few weeks of the season will not alter that.

YMNGASYHBUYTA
Yep! You made a bet on Leeds winning meaning you knew deep down the Champions would beat your "whipping boy rabble" from Wigan. Did you put you money where your mouth is and put a bet on you favoured Wigan side?

Yep! If you had asked GH before the season would he accept say a £100K loss on season ticket sales in exchange for £500-700K earnings from 2 Cup finals I think I know the answer.

Rather like last year and for the same reasons shouldn't you now be choosing your new ID? icon_wink.gif

Quote: William Eve "Not good but hardly surprising when compared to other Wigan V Leeds play-off attendances.
2012 - 12,344
2010 - 12,117
2002 - 13,157
1998 - 12,941

Leeds V Wigan play-off attendances are better.
2010 - 13,692
2008 - 13,212
2007 - 16,112
2004 - 20,119
2003 - 17,263

I've always got mine very early. It's never been determined by whether Leeds make the GF or not. I'm not attending the GF this year however. Made that decision at the start of the season along with non-attendance for the meaningless regular season dross. The only exceptions have been the WCC, Bradford away (due to the financial circumstances) and Catalan at home (free ticket and an excuse to meet up with a few people). My patronage towards the game shall remain practically non-existent until credibility and meaningful games are restored.'"

How do you know it's dross if you don't attend?

Incorrect, I made 'bets'.
Leeds +12.0 @ 2.20, £5.00 Single, 27/09/2012 14
Why would I do that when I favoured Leeds in a 'tricky' contest as opposed to a non-contest against whipping boy SL rabble? And even if I was minded to favour Wigan, there was little value in the odds being offered by the bookmakers, which, IIRC were odds of 1.28 for the outright win, or 1.91 with a -12 handicap.

Quote: Juan Cornetto "Yep! If you had asked GH before the season would he accept say a £100K loss on season ticket sales in exchange for £500-700K earnings from 2 Cup finals I think I know the answer.'"

Maintaining or increasing a loyal season ticket customer fanbase is a more financially sustainable policy in the long term as opposed to relying upon reaching finals every season. Even a Tory ought to know that.

Quote: Juan Cornetto "How do you know it's dross if you don't attend?'"

Because I've seen the SL dross on TV and it doesn't only apply to Leeds performances. It lasted for 27 regular season rounds plus 2 weeks of meaningless play-off fixtures to eliminate all the whipping boy SL rabble.

It could be worse though, we could have had a really exciting season then an absolutely dross play-off series like the NRL I suppose...

Agree with that.

Worst series of play-off games I can recall down under.

Dreadful, in fact.

Psst
Quote: William Eve "1. Finish 5th
2. Whipping Boy Wakefield SL Rabble at home
3. Whipping Boy Catalan SL Rabble away
4. Whipping Boy Wigan Rabble away...
5. Whipping Boy Warrington Rabble in Grand Final

Championship retained

Next.....that Whipping Boy Melbourne Rabble (possibly away) in World Club Championship again .'"

Now Leeds have proven that we can win the Championship off a handicap once again do we have to offer points start next year?

Isn't it this time of year you have to re-invent yourself Willy?icon_lol.gif

In hindsight yes. I doubt that GH would agree with tat as a long term strategy. that's the sort of strategy that the Bulls followed. It's much easier to lose the cup final income stream than to recover the season ticket income stream.

I am sure it wasn't GH's or the coaches or the team's strategy to take it easy in the early rounds of SL this year. As I have said before IMO we had to train hard pre-season to peak for the WCC. Then to peak agin for the CC and finally the playoffs. To have been able to maintain form for all of this and in between would have been a miracle. The critics just do not seem to allow for any fall off in form before they rush to judgement.

However I am equally sure that GH has achieved almost all his targets for the season with his coach and team reaching all 3 finals and winning 2 of them. This will have secured his income targets too. I also think that retaining our Championship will be good enough for most season ticket holders and those that do drop out could well be replaced with new supporters that victors attract with perhaps a big name signing helping too.

The team know they let themselves down in several games this year and the coach could well try to play some attractive rugby next season in compensation. However we will have the same WCC to peak for early season and so again have a handicap that the other sides do not have to face. The problems of success.
