| Can’t understand any hate towards Hurrell - most seem reasonable about it but…. He came to us when we were a basket case really. His Mum died and he’s had COVID to deal with whilst at Leeds. Plus a fair share of injury.
He has had his defensive lapses and errors but also been a nightmare for opposition defences to handle, and great entertainment value.
This is probably the right move for all parties but I’m sad we never really saw the best of him or he of us.

| Good luck Konny, I hope you smash it, except when playing against us.

| Quote: The Ghost of '99 "Sutcliffe gets the number 4 shirt.
If Hurrell stayed it always had to be on Leeds terms, given the club are comfortable with Sutcliffe and Newman as their first choice centre pairing going forward (pending development of Broadbent of course). Unfortunately that meant the offer was one year and not so much money. Saints could beat us on length and deal so it's no surprise he's taken their offer, despite the potential family upheaval it brings.
Whether he will enjoy playing there in a somewhat weakened Saints team next year remains to be seen; certainly it doesn't appear he's getting the reception from their fans he has had at Leeds, for all his faults.'"
Agreed Sutcliffe and Newman are our 2022 centres with Broadbent next in line.
Hurrell and Vuniyayawa leaving should free up plenty of salary cap space for a prop and a quota spot too.

| Sorry to see him leave despite his faults.
What we will miss apart from his barnstorming runs is how he attracts 3 sometimes 4 defenders leaving space that we should be exposing.
Not sure Newman or Sutcliffe will offer us that.
With us losing him and King nothing less than a flipping good NRL prop or Thompson will do.

| Thompson isn't a viable proposition for any UK club at this point. Leeds would need to flip one of the existing marquee players to fully in the cap to get him, even assuming he wants to come back to the UK.
His full salary demands, putting aside whatever the Dogs contribute, is probably double or more anything Hetherington has ever paid to one player.

| I can't see us recruiting in the back line. Gale, Sezer and Austin - don't know if we will keep McLelland - is enough in the halves, plus cannot see Handley or T Briscoe getting replaced next year. With Tindall and Broadbent giving cover, probably time to let L Briscoe move on.
Centres we have out of our ears even without Hurrell, although they are all a little underdone apart from Sutcliffe, who I still don't think is good enough but hey. Again can't see movement here though.
We don't need any other back rowers even if Martin leaves, and we have Leeming, Johnson (hopefully still) and Dwyer at hooker.
Prop is the only position, with King going, that we don't have depth in - and whereas we have a couple of decent Academy prospects I don't think we've any more Holroyds waiting to come in. A big horrible thing to partner Holroyd and Mik, with Tet and Prior as the senior figures, for me makes sense.
We would then have decent cover in every position, and if we get a biblical injury crisis again we go to Academy players. Done. 1 more prop is all we need then.

| 1 prop is all we “need” but is it all we can afford? There are other areas we could strengthen, we have precious little pace out wide, this must be addressed if we seriously want to win it next year.

I think you are right.
But wouldn`t we have Hurrells money to go towards his salary?
Apparently Bulldogs are willing to pay half his salary.
Does that mean we would be paying circa £300 py?
Don`t think we will sign him but Warrea Hargraves would do

I always remember that JWH has family connections around Leeds, I wouldn't be surprised if he could be tempted across one day. Disciplinary liability but an inspiration to the young lads and brings some mongrel.
If Canterbury were to cover a good chunk of wages then yes maybe Thompson; but we'd still be forking out a lot of money there.
I'd be tempted to keep our powder a little dry - we don't have to spend completely up to the cap. I'd rather put that money into youth development rather than on another squad-filler blocking the path of a younger player making their way.

| A prop yes but a back with pace to burn is what we really lack. We look to have smart creative halves but no real killer pace out wider. I hope when GH mentions about expanding into success he has something good up his sleeve so a good prop and a good outside back please.

| I think if Liam Sutcliffe is given a permanent, undistracted run at centre with a settled wing partner he could be very good indeed.

Handley, Sutcliffe, Newman, T Briscoe are shoe-ins I think. The time to replace any would be end of next season IMO.
Tindall I read is the quickest man at the club. Broadbent and Edwards deserve a chance and Walker hopefully will get fit and challenge Myler.
I agree we lack long-range strike but given our pack and halves, we have tries in us.

| Have to say i think its best all round that Koni starts afresh elsewhere. He has potential to be a powerhouse player but i personally dont think he takes the game seriously enough. Maybe Saints can get him fit and get him working harder.
Look at last week, hes out with a foot/ankle injury, hes in a boot yet runs across pitch with his crutch in the air to South Stand. Hobbling on it all the way
Just stupid could have made his injury worse. Just about summed him up to me.
A really likeable character, a powerful bloke but is he a professional? Wish him well at Saints, hope he knuckles down. Probably wont happen.
