Interesting to see how many we get through this year- line from Oledzki in one of the trade papers this morning about life being tough for young forwards under McDermott and how Furner has a "different approach". Reckon we might see a few get a shot this year.

Tommy The Tank played last year in 1st team but we need to get him a few more games off the bench this year I think. If he can stay injury free and toughen up a bit mentally he's going to be a star of Super League in a few years. He's an absolute powerhouse.

| Both Holroyd and Muizz took some stopping yesterday. Continually hitting the line, knocking 2 or 3 players back and finding their front.
Thought Harvey Spence looked good too along with Whitton. Seems to be a good production line of full backs at the moment. Can only make the league stronger

from what i have seen Spence looks every bit as good and i would say better than McClelland, and this is against open age championship sides not academy kids, of course many halfbacks fail to kick on and make super league, a problem in the British game full stop. But Spence looks a good bet for a darkhorse, other players in that side get lauded more and he might be the one to really kick on.

i can only comment on what i have seen ogf him and McClelland and based on my eyes he has looked the better of the two, granted only seen small doses and couple games of both.

Any particular reason or just his all-round game?

| Just never seen Spence do much to be honest and I watched him all way thru 16s and 19s. The one area we are short in our junior teams is the halves.
McLelland will need time to adjust back, he hasn't played RL for a while.

Alot can happen in those two years, looked good for me not saying he will be a big star or will even make it in SL but potential is there and as i stated dark horse slow burner see where he is in two years time, if he is knocking on the first team door then can only be a good thing.

The one thing both Burrow and McGuire had as youngsters coming through was the pace/evasion to frighten defences.
As a link I think the halves are the ones which add pace to attack; they instigate the momentum and it takes quite a special player to execute high skill at high speed.
Whether any of the academy halves will make it in the end I'm not sure - we don't have the strength of player depth to have all positions covered, things tend to come in waves.
Right now we have some decent centre prospects, although perhaps in the Ashley Gibson mould rather than Kallum Watkins... fullbacks and then forwards.
Walker, Golding, Whitton, Stephens is a decent depth at fullback for once, and I'm very happy with our crop of props and second rows coming through.

Sam Little in the scholarship is an excellent talent at fullback aswel, played a couple of times last season as an u15, scored a nice try against StHelens. His footwork is top class.

If the fullback has real pace, they can transfer to wing fairly easily - or possibly push up into the halves (unless they stick their heels in like Walker..). Haven't seen this lad yet but will look out for him.
