In todays market Schoey would have been as coveted by NRL clubs in the way Sam Burgess was as a teenager.no way he would be still in SL at 24 imo.

Agreed, he would have played out most of his career down under instead.
Depending on the source, Schofield signed for Leeds (from Hull FC) in 1987 at the age of 22 for a transfer fee of either £155,000 or £178,250.
A historic inflation calculator translates the above figures in 2016 as follows...
£155,000 in 1987 = £410,223 in 2016
£178,250 in 1987 = £471,757 in 2016

| Schoey was a massive hit down under, in contrast to say Shaun Edwards, and turned in his best performances on the international stage.
Only Ellery (certainly) and Kevin Ward (probably) had as much impact in their Aussie stints as Garry did, and, yes, they would all be NRL players if they were around today.
However he's not exactly a quality talker or thinker on the game.

Yes, of course. Meant to say of that generation, when pretty much the whole GB team summered down under.

Harsh to compare the two
Schoey is an all time great, the most capped GB player ever, a golden boot winner, and an inductee into the British RL and Balmain Halls of Fame (despite playing only a handful of games down under), he was also already playing for GB at 18

Agreed! I only made the statement to highlight the gulf.

| I've listened to Schofield's views and in the past he's clearly pointed the finger at senior players. Why does that mean he can't take the view that the coach can't be held responsible, and that a point has been reached where the coach is a big part of the problem, even if he wasn't earlier?

| Also, from what I've read I can't see where he says BM should be sacked - more that he appears to have hit the wall and should consider moving on?

I've just seen a copy of League Express and Schoey does not call for his sacking.
Are you that clueless prat who used to steal a wage at the Manchester Evening News and is now stealing a wage at Leigh?

Yes he is and he also posts and starts threads on here and elsewhere (a lot on Salford) as MarioRugby.
From the bit of the article I saw online Schofield does say that both McDermott and Anderson at Hudds should move on at the end of the year because they've both reached their shelf life at their current clubs but backs them to do well with a fresh challenge. Talks about Cunningham going too and blames it on him getting the job early.
Just another one of Neil Barker's two profiles in exaggerated headline thread shock. Funny thing some of the threads he's started on here have been posted several minutes before Leigh games have kicked off......real employee of the month there using his time wisely to help his club/employers.
