| England were successful against New Zealand by playing a style that suited the resources they have. Don't have the halves or outside backs to play an expansive game, so need to get field position and grind teams down particularly in the sort of poor conditions the majority of that series was played in.
If you try to turn England into the Harlem Globetrotters, you're not going be successful.

No.....but if you were to play the game that Leeds did last season with the right personnel you can be.
As for the claim of not having the outside backs, does that not directly contradict the widely held opinion about the Leeds' outside backs in the same season ...and that maybe you could have filled the 'Moon hole' with Percival?
Many also felt it was a mistake not to include the very much in form McGuire; thus further contesting the claim about the lack of good halves.

Part of the criteria of being a successful coach is to make the right selections

I wouldn't say that. Bennett has signed him twice. He obviously rates the guy.

How do you reach that conclusion?

In the last 10 years he has won 2 grand finals and reached another last year, without checking that probably the best record of any nrl coach except Des Hasler and Craig Bellamy if you count the stripped titles??

| From what I've read Bennett has been asked to be involved with England in some form but that hasn't even been defined yet. It hardly reads as becoming the head coach.
Where Bennett could be very useful is the psychological part - he helped the Kiwis believe they could beat Australia. A coach with his reputation telling an England team that they can beat the Kangaroos might help a lot, as we seem to have a mental problem with Australia which we don't have with NZ.

| At international level there should be little need to improve anyone physically. 90% of it should be about the mental side.

Fully agree. just posted the same on the VT. We now have the players to mix it competitively. At International level margins are tight and its about executing game plans and believing in yourself. We need a coach who can instil that, and will get the players buying into it 100%.

Just to dot the i's and cross the t's, McNamara's departure officially announced.
Says they expect to announce a replacement today. Could be too early for it to Bennett who it sounded like would discuss it when he came over for the WCC, so he might just be working with a new coach.

| Thanks Steve, you did better than I expected & better than most have given you credit for. I am enthused the RFL seem to have done the difficult thing rather than the standard renewal. Fingers crossed for Richard Agar/Bobbie Goulding double act.
