| Quote: GCM1980 "There are a few more considerations than the atmosphere, although it isn't ignored. It's a commercial decision for one, as the reduced seating capacity in the north stand has to be made up for somewhere. That's a significant amount of revenue lost if the seating capacity is reduced. It might seem trivial for those hankering after the existing, crumbling south stand, but that's the reality.'"
I think that's how you have to look at it.
The aim of these plans has clearly been to increase capacity and corporate hospitality facilities on the cricket side. This is going to be necessary if YCCC is ever going to compete for lucrative Ashes Tests in the future. You can't feasibly increase the footprint of Headingley, so YCCC is taking space from the North Stand to achieve this.
Leeds Rhinos naturally don't want to lose premium seating - that revenue is ultimately what helps the club to grow and pay for stuff like this. Again, it's difficult and costly to increase the footprint of the stadium, so the seats need to be moved somewhere else in the stadium.
I don't particularly like the idea, but this is the commercial reality.

Plastic seats in the North Stand - disaster.'"
I am really pleased they have reverted to putting seats in the South stand, think it looks great. The North Stand though looks not good enough, and a poor substitute to seemingly assist the cricket side instead.

| looks fantastic.Still be a great atmosphere in South Stand no worries. The Old one is awesome no doubts, but times have to move on accordingly.

| I don't think Yorkshire aren't taking space from Leeds, they are just building up to the edge of their land which is the top of the existing stand. Allied to building forward over the existing track at the front they have scope for a much more substantial structure. If anything Leeds are surrendering seating capacity in favour of giving the corporate space proper visibility of the RL pitch.
In terms of who the corporate side benefits, it clearly generates its highest rates for England cricket but in terms of volumes by far the biggest users are the Rhinos so it is equally critical for us to see this come off, whatever qualms we may have about the details of the proposed layout etc.

| What about seats down the side of the south and the middle left for terracing? It does say it's what the stadium could look like

| I don't understand how your capacity is not increasing when the club said there will be the same amount of fans standing in the South stand as there is today. The main stand must be more spacious for spectators I presume.

"It will present a major construction challenge and inevitably cause some disruption for all teams during that period. Our stadium capacity will reduce to just over 13,000 for a period during the 2017 season but we are determined to ensure all our ticketed members are guaranteed access to all games and that's why the 2016 Members will have priority for 2017."
Where are all us South Standers going during this period? Carnigie stand?'"
The Stretford end at old Trafford had no problem generating noise back in the 80s that had seating in the back 1/3.

It'll have more standing capacity than there currently are standing memberships, not that it currently has in total. That's my understanding of it anyway.
So the days of non-members being able to walk up to games on matchday and stand in the South Stand will be gone. They'll have to either stand at an end or pay extra for a seat if they want to be side-on.
Nice bit of economics there by the club, making it more attractive for those who wish to stand to pay for a membership rather than pick and choose their games.

I think the real bit of economics is increasing the number of seats. Add another 4 or 5 quid to the ticket price.
I wonder how much this is costing? £15m? £20m?
I'm glad it's taking place though. Yes it's a shame there's seating in the South Stand but it's the future of the club and it's great to see it taking place.

Not sure how that is any different to what it is now.
You have x amount of members, and you have x amount of paying public.
The new proposals is bigger capacity than current members. Therefore you will have x amount of members, and you will have x amount of paying public.
It also states the extra capacity will make up for the loss in the North stand, therefore you would expect that extra capacity to be bigger than we have now.

I'm sure it says the capacity is remaining the same. So intake that to mean that the North will be reduced and South increased by a similar amount

Pretty much my take on it. Plus Caddick could be paying himself to build it?

After a 15 year absence from the south stand, I may now return with a lovely cushioned seat high up and level with halfway, well away from all the riff raff who've been stinking out that area for way too long.
Oh, and take that effin' band with you as you clear off!
It's not often I've praised him but... well done Gary Hetherington. Fantastic stuff
Proof, were it needed, that this redevelopment is a bad idea...

| For those moaning your options are this:
1. Stick with a south stand that is falling down around us and at some point will just be closed by the safety folk and a north stand that quite frankly is not fit for elite sports, or
2. Redevelop with improved seats and corporate possibilities as well as maintaining the heart of the south stand with seating.
For me there is only one long term option and we have all known this for sometime. If you really hate it then give your feedback to the club. I do wonder what some people want though.
Well done to all involved. Yet another example of the club (literally) building strong foundations for the future of the club.
