| I believe that Tomkins was headhunted by the Warriors based on Dean Bell's recommendation. I wonder how his input is now viewed. To put this down to Aussie arrogance is incorrect. The same magazine I believe had Sam Burgess in the top 10 of signings, he may even have been no 1, so no arrogance there.
As to whether GH would have signed him, as others have said the answer is a resounding "no". Good player though he is we do not need him, Sam Burgess, however, would be a resounding "yes".

| Must have been short of stuff to put in RLW now it's the off-season. Thrown together a hastily compiled list of names, chuck in as many Poms as you can to back up your own xenophobia and off you go.

| If the Warriors paid, as reported, £700K for him - its by a country mile the biggest flop.
On all the highlights i watched of the Warriors over the last year - his defence continued to be awful (often last man in, knees - that kind of thing)

| The resident apologists on the pies board are comparing his stats to Hardaker. Pretty pathetic. Funny enough they can't pull a stat on how effective Zak's kick offs are or how many trys he saves.
Strap yourselves in peeps it's gonna be a week to week "ours is better than yours" dick measuring contest.

I believe he was sacked a few months ago, so perhaps that's your answer.

Can't help thinking that if they were happy with what they had, they wouldn't have to keep measuring

| For the money invested in him, it has turned out to be a bit of a failure for both him and NZ Warriors, however you cannot blame the lad for at least giving it a go. He'd won everything over here, so why would he turn down the opportunity to challenge himself further.

We are happy with what we have, a Superior Fullback at a Club with more Class.

| The benchmark of a top fullback is the ability to be rock solid under the high ball. Added to that ,you need to be a good tackler..
Tompkins is neither of these, he is however a decent stand off and that's the position he should play.

| I don't buy into him going to the wrong team, or him turning into a worse player... there is a just a big gulf in class between the super league and the NRL, it would surprise me if any of the SL teams from this year would make the top 8 in the NRL. It is especially noticeable in the backs, and the spine of the teams.
Someone like Watkins may do well in the NRL, as he has a good mixture of size, speed and agility. Tomkins lacks the size and speed and this was badly exposed defensively and in attack where he was routinely hammered.
It is just a more athletic, skillful league and he wasn't good enough to excel in it. There is no shame in that, most players don't even have the bottle to try.
He will come back into SL and again excel against poor teams behind a dominant Wigan team, but struggle internationally against the big boys, as most of our backs do.

Bang on the money - he's had a crack, which is commendable, he didn't live up to expectations, which was probably expected, and he probably will come back and score a hatfull of tries...
