Has been unbelievable the last 3 years i agree for a man of his age, He could have easily got the nod any of those seasons. He has been good this year too but not quite on the level of a few others.

If Walmsley gets it ahead of him that would be acceptable IMO even though I think it should be Cuthbertson. Anybody other than that would be wrong.

And isn't their a rule that means O'Loughlin HAS to be the shortlist regardless even if he's only played 2 games all season through injury? Usually seems the case.

| It has seemed that way but I'm betting that's down to his standing in the game.
For me it has to be Cuthbertson. Walmsley had been great, Hardaker has been fantastic but no one player has done to a team what Cuthbertson has to Leeds, this season .

You have it wrong. I can't say I remember him making the MOS short list. However, his selection at loose forward in the dream team seems to be automatic regardless of how many games he misses.

| I think it will be between Cuthbertson and Walmsley as they have both played good rugby that gets the headlines. Whereas the likes of Ward does so much of the hard unsung stuff that doesn't make the headlines but IMO his contribution to Leeds this year has been not so far behind Cuthbertson.

| I think Cuthbertson has been a revelation of a signing. But I also think his performances have come as a consequence of Aiton. Only got to see the performances since Aiton was out to see that. Hopefully we recruit the right replacement, to ensure we see the same of Cuthbertson going forward.
The question is did he do enough before Aiton was out to get the votes. Walmsley on the other hand, I don't think has put in as many good performances as Cuthbertson, but he has maintained it at the right time, and can it be said his performances have come off the back of someone else, or is he the reason for Saints staying in touch.
I think Cuthbertson has done the classier work, but I also agree with Andy Gilder previously, that the best man doesn't always get it as the final decision comes down to some that in reality do not see some of the performances of the shortlist in question. And not only that they also may vote with the heart, instead of where it should be for what they are deciding.

I see the point about Aiton because I've said for a long time this year that would either of them had as good a year without the other. However Cuthbertson has only played 2 league games since Aiton's injury (Wigan and Saints at home) and for the latter the whole team looked to have post Wembley hangover so perhaps a bit early to write off his form post Aiton.
As for Walmsley, would losing Roby from hooker for several weeks not have an effect? Also Walmsley limped off last night so who knows if he's going to miss some games now.

| My choice of the leeds candidates : forwards I would say Cuthbertson just shades peacock.
The backs ,Hardaker just shades Danny Mags, but because of the team ethos at Leeds most players make a valuable contribution, which makes choosing a Leeds representative difficult.
It is not difficult to see why Leeds have struggled in this award though, when the committee selecting the winner could comprise of figures such as Joh Wilkin, Lee Briers ,the ex mos possibly Paul Sculthorpe ,journos in the form of Martyn Sadler and Dave Hadfield, or the ex pro maybe Martin Offiiah. What is categorically needed in the MOS award is a lot more transparency.

| Thought Ellis was hard done by when Wellens got the award. This year? I wouldn't expect it for any player, it's always harder for one player to stand out in the best team.

Admittedly Cuthbertson has twice as many offloads as Walmsley (and everyone else!) but he's also made a 1000 metres less (top metres are over 4000 from Walmsley) and half as many tackle busts (although that may be because he's offloading more). As a forward, all are important but I know that through the Saints lull, Walmsley has hardly faltered. It would have been interesting to see how he would have performed in a team that has been on top a little more often.
In the year Roby was awarded the title, he played well all season whereas (in my one eyed recollection), Barrett only shone for the second half of year....admittedly brighter than Roby.
Although he is a terrific forward in general (at least on this season's performances), could it be the phenomenal number of offloads from Cuthbertson has dazzled a little too much or has this exciting part of his game been the cherry on his overall performance?

Walmsley is clearly playing a biff n barge role at saints. Cuthbertson has been playing half his games at LF and given a bit more of ball playing role.
Walmsley has played a few more games so has made more carries and more metres. Cuthbertson has over a 100 more tackles despite the less games and twice the offloads.
Both players have been exceptional in their role but while Walmsley has played well he hasn't had the same effect as Cuthbertson at Leeds which was my point.

Well that's a point I made earlier. Recent winners like Tomkins, Chase, Brough, all highlight reel type players. Forwards very rarely win this award and Lance Todd and Harry Sunderland. A record smashing offload season is the type of thing that will catch the eye over metres made otherwise more forwards would've won, Peacock would've added to his 2003 award.
