furner was the glue that held the young players together in 2004 like Glanville in 99'"
I didn't think Glanville was anything special. There were no yards after contact. He just seemed to go straight to ground. I don't know if he was trying to protect the ball. It was weird. I wondered if someone feinted to tackle him, if he would still go to ground.
I wasn't too excited about he Furner signing, but he was one of they key players in 2004 winning team.

I think he is up there but the likes of Jamie Lyon,Trent Barrett and The Paul brothers to name but a few would give him a run for his money as the best.fwiw he is the best we have had imo.

| Ali without a doubt. No contest. Pure class.
He was our Eric Cantona in that he was the x factor in getting us over the line for that crucial first title - then a succession of them followed.
And he was allowed to leave too soon.

Agreed, but for me Ali was a one off. There's been nobody like him in SL, Solomona maybe, but to me he was always a charity shop version of Ali.

| Aiton looks like a new signing. I've not rated him, but seems (to me anyway) that he is totally rejuvenated this year. His energy and aggression are a breath of fresh air. Cuthbertson is a great signing, but for me he just reminds me of what we have been missing, a big guy who has good hands and can offload.
He is obvious quality, his reading of the defence after McGuire's break to then put Hall in was the mark of a very good footballer.
I thought Singleton was just as good in his own way yesterday. He's gong to be in that team for a long time.

| As a wire fan im very impressed. He does good minutes, gets through a shed load of work and his offloading ability is as good as any. Most he tries come off and tend to create something.

| I can't recall many overseas players looking so integral and essential to a team as quickly as cuthbertson.
As for the question - no, he'll need 2-3 good season for that.
Ali and Lyon are the best 2 overseas signings I've seen in SL era. I'd place Ali first by a reasonable distance as Lyon only had a couple of seasons.

| Not even top 3 yet imo.
He's proving to be a quality signing no doubts at all and his skill set along with doing the tough stuff is a joy to watch and no doubt he adds the X-Factor dimension to our pack but as has been said lets not get giddy just yet!
Fwiw imo it's Ali ,Webb ,Kylie , then the likes of Godden ,Furner ,Bai ,Glanville ,Donald & Poching come into the reckoning.
I also enjoyed watching Innes ,Blackmore Izzard and albeit very short stay E.T.

| He's certainly, without doubt, the best prop we've signed since Kylie.
Although when the competition for that distinction is Cross, Moore, Griffin, it's hardly the ringing endorsement it first appears.

Would you swap him for Sims?
I wouldn't, even though arguably Sims was the bigger signing.
But let's wait & see how he goes over a full season, so far no complaints from me.

| Interesting to see some compare Cuthbo with Sims from what i've seen thus far of Sims albeit only t.v i think he's looked decent imo Asotasi has been a waste of a gum shield and he can't have come cheap.

| I know it's outside the decade criteria but Glanvilles contribution was immense. It wasn't our period of success so he prob gets overlooked and he wasn't flashy but man did he do some work. He was clearly not here just for a pension top up.
His experience, work rate and positional sense were first rate. For me he ranks very high against the flashier players.

His knees were shot so he couldn't train but you will not see a player with a better tackling technique.

| I said before the start of the season, and im delighted that its working that way, that Cuthbertson is exactly the type of player we needed.
Its not so much his quality (which has been high don't get me wrong), but also the type of player he is.
He is a different proposition to what we have had at prop for years. He is a great passer and offloader, he is dragging defences in to help us exploit the space that creates and he has fitted in to that role brilliantly.
But to do that he has needed the team around him he has had, Singleton and Peacock have both been working very hard doing the less flashy stuff, Ward has taken a step up and is marauding at the outside edges at the moment.
Cuthbertson is gaining so many plaudits because he looks something like a missing piece of the puzzle, if had gone to a side that wasn't built how ours is, I can imagine his offloads causing a bit of frustration, and a few accusations that he is too much of a loose cannon (one of the reasons he has never received the plaudits he deserved in Aus which is a very risk averse league) Something we should bare in mind when we don't hit these heights a bit later in the year

I think everyone who saw that team rates Glanville and Godden very highly, and rightly so. The one who's underrated was Martin Masella, who was a big part of that rock hard Murray pack. Not "one of our best imports ever" or anything, but underrated nonetheless.
