Transparent Backgrounds/Waldorf.gif "As you travel through life don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things" - George Carlin

This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC:Transparent Backgrounds/Waldorf.gif |

| Quote: Fallon "Yep, the best thing for one of our best attacking players is to have to beat his opposite number and the 2nd row stood inside, or the halfback stood outside depending on the set up.
RL is a numbers game at heart. Beating one man is tough, beating two is almost never done. Draw the man and pass.'"
And yet at Hull he drifted inside, hit a line off a ball-player in the middle of the field and went on to finish.
Watkins doesn't necessarily need an overlap creating for him, with his speed and footwork he can embarrass players in space. What he does need though are well-delivered passes and with the greatest respect to some of Leeds back-rowers they aren't going to provide them.

Fully agree that Watkins is good enough to create from nothing and Hull was a prime example but those instances are fairly rare. Most often he is in the centre position. It makes most sense to work out how to get him good running ball and 1-1 with his opposite number from the position he spends most of his time in wouldn't you say?
Getting him to take the ball either further in field where traffic Is heavier and he's more likely to get hammered by forwards or 1-2 out wider doesn't make sense on a regular basis.

| Quote: Mookachaka "What do you think about putting Watkins at 6? He is like the British Greg Inglis / Darren Lockyer, could play anywhere in the backline really. I feel he's wasted at centre sometimes, doesn't get enough ball.'"
He needs to improve on his passing to play in the Halves. I thought he had a good game playing at Full Back in the WCC at Headingley.

| TBF this is the kind of signing we should be making. Some of the most unheralded signings turn out to be the best, granted there is going to be quite a bit of chaff to be separated from the wheat but im sure with the right training, application etc we could bring on any player with the right attitude.
Vainakolo was languishing in the reserves when Bratfud brought him over and Kylie hasn't turned out to be a bust has he?
Signing up NRL "Stars" is going to be very hard and expensive, but with the right scouting, we can possibly snag some rising talents before the mega money enters into it.

| I have a couple of contacts at Cas and although confirmed the rumours, bit were insistent that nothing has happened with Burrow down there. Either damn good liars keeping things secret, or it is just a rumour again.
Also confirmed to me that Cameron Smith has agreed a massive deal to sign for Leeds when 16. The biggest deal of any junior currently playing. For me I think Leeds did the right thing.

| My contact at Leeds also said no deal agreed by Burrow. But may still happen.

| I've also heard that at the mean time, the Burrow to Cas is still just a rumour, but seeing his reaction at the end of the Cas game he looked frustrated with only getting on for the final 15 mins so I really do expect that move to happen this season.
Today at the match talking to some people they questioned why would he go to Cas when Leeds offers a better chance of winning trophies in his final years. But I said fair play to the guy (if he does go).....he's won all he can win at this level, he could stay around for a couple of seasons and win things by playing 20/30 mins cameos.....or he can just enjoy playing every minute possible at another club.
You see guys in football move to the big clubs and spend most weeks on the bench and they might make 10/12 subsitute appearances and 'earn' themselves a Premiership medal......so fair play to a guy who could possibly be prepared to give up trophy winning chances just to be able to play the sport he enjoys for 80 mins every week. You have to tip your hat to him in that regard IF the move to Cas does happen.

982.jpg [quote:1pqtnbtj]Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.[/quote:1pqtnbtj]

| From Leeds perspective I think it would be a misake to let Burrow go at the same time as Sinfield and JP. That;s losing a lot of experience in one go. Whilst it's clear that Sutcliffe and McGuire are the halves (and rightly so) McGure has had his injuries and Burrow can still change a game (Catalan away) from the bench.
From Burrow's perspective I can see why he might want a move. His career has been stifled by the obsession to move halves with pace into the dummy half role.

I agree that losing him at the same time of others would be a big blow, however I'm not sure what Leeds can do about it. I don't think it's a money thing so we can't just throw a bucket load of cash at him (nor should we even if that was the solution). The only way we may possibly be able to keep him is to start him week-in week-out....and most would agree that we shouldn't because he should come off the bench.
A few weeks back I debated with someone who said we messed up by selling BJB to Salford in regards to Briscoe missing 3 months. I tried explaining to them that we actually wanted to keep BJB but ultimately we couldn't offer him gametime so it was impossible to keep him......seems very similar to Burrow right now, we don't want to lose him, but we can't offer him the starting spot every week that he desires most.

| True, the only thing Leeds can do is tell him the truth, where he stands, where he's going to stand and that we a team want him to stay for the correct reasons. After that, its Robs decision.
Frankly if he feels that he has to leave then so be it, the guy has given everything to the Leeds cause, though we shouldn't be so quick to let a club legend to leave on a whim.

| I struggle to name one player who has left Leeds and gone on to better things in terms of honours.
Therefore if he were to leave, and I don't think he will next season, it will be for game time., not honours.
If a player is not happy with his role in the squad then for me he can go. Great player though he has been I'm only interested in watching players who are committed to the cause rather than obsessed about the role they think they should be playing in it.

I think you're being a little unfair to Robbie. As far as I can see he has shown nothing but uncomplaining professionalism these last few years after been moved from his customary scrum half role. Without a doubt he does appear to be at his most effective off the bench against tiring forwards while also being ideal to slot in when either Sutcliffe or McGuire are unavailable/need resting. I hope the club can keep him but I would not begrudge him wanting regular first team starting elsewhere.
No doubt if he did move we would all be panicking when he gets his hands on the ball from dummy half in the same way the oppostion supporters/players do at the moment. Robbie is one of those x-factor players who unsettles the opposition and gets everybody on the edge of their seats.
