"The Golden Generation finally has its Golden Fleece! They have Wembley Cup Final winners medals to add to their collection."
23/08/2014: |
|
| Quote: Biff Tannen "simple as that really.most fans just don't hold the CC in the same regard as the past and it has slipped a way behind the GF in priority.I know we have had this debate many times but that is just the way it is.I remember the days when most CC semi finals got 20K plus regular but those days seem to be long gone.Still, the final seems to still get healthy enough crowds.'"
It's not just the value of the cup but the Season ticket thing as well. 20 years ago we had an average of around 9,500 for the league games......nowadays it's nearly 5,500 more. I think most people will only attend a certain amount of games a year. Whereas it was easier to miss a few league games and save yourself for the cup games, it's now the other way round.
Add to the fact that so many of the games featuring Leeds are on tv and you can watch on a nice big tv from all angles from the comfort of your settee compared to the tv quality (and amount of games on show) from yesteryear......then why travel when you can see all the action for free?
I mean before the start of the year it was pretty much a guarantee that 3 of the 5 trips over the Pennines would be on Sky (Wigan, Saints and Wire......as it turned out so was the Salford one). With the Cas, Hudds and Wakey away games on tv too then you can catch pretty much all of Leeds' games on tv this year or through a ST. I mean so far this year if you do only have a ST and Sky but not travel then you'll have missed only 3 games in total in the league (HKR, Bradford and Widnes away..... 4 if you include Wakey in the cup). That means that of the 26 games we've played so far this year, you could've seen 22 of them with a ST and Sky subscription. Add that the Warrington game and potential CC final will be televised, also the Saints and Wigan games in the league will definitely be aired as well as any playoff game then before the playoffs start that's potentially 26 out of 32 you can view from those two methods.......when you've seen such a large chunk then does paying extra to see it in the flesh instead of the tv make much sense unless it's the Final?

| In answer to the OP, yes you can pay on the day & the Saints ticket office opens at 10am. Ticket prices go up by £2 on Saturday.

| 2 points off the top of the table, 2nd best points difference, and people bitching about the team. I don't miss that.

I'm beginning to think its the Rhinos way!
Spend the whole season saying how crap the team is & why the Coach must be sacked to save the Club from extinction & then you turn up in September & win Super League.

| I don't think the timing of the semi helps either. I know a few of my friends who simply couldn't afford to do the semi and potentially the final just 2 weeks later. They would rather miss the semi, and hopefully go to Wembley, than go to semi and miss Wembley.

Superficially and yes on paper there should be nothing to complain about....but I do suggest you read Les Norton's post again.

"people are just sick of the frequent poor performances" that have led the team to 2nd in the table and 2nd best points difference and the CC semi final.
"We should be top of the table" Why? Are we genetically different from Wigan, Saints, Warrington, Huddersfield? And whoever else is spending to the cap?
"but we aren't because we are underachieving" Fuk knows what would be considered over achieving then?

| Quote: Les Norton "You know what? I think people are just sick of the frequent poor performances. If we were a poor team we'd accept it, but we aren't. We should be top of the table. We should be going into this Semi full of optimism, but we aren't because we are underachieving and playing beneath ourselves. This is why we aren't snapping tickets up, we are disilusioned.
I have a ticket and I'm confident that we will win the game but I can completely understand why others are not attending.'"
I was well up for going and my student card is valid for another 5 weeks, so this is the last game almost I could have got a concession ticket for - I could have gone for just £9.
I've never been to a cup semi-final of a team I support (and won't for a while otherwise, as an NUFC football fan!) and really want us to go to Wembley as i've similarly never been there before and might not ever get chance to in the football.
We have been pants for weeks and my MA research project is due in in 6 days, yet I was planning on getting a ticket still at the Bradford, even though common sense told me not to due as I would be better using the time to sort any last-minute issues with my project. However, I was forgoing common sense and was going to go.
Then we were just as bad / worse against Bradford and I thought 'you know what, what is the point? They aren't bothered and have been short changing me.'
Even though it would just be £9 (plus travel) since May their effort and commitment hasn't matched mine at times.
To the poster who mentioned football, it is more expensive, yes - but I would say it has become more family-orientated / diverse. But similarly there, I know many who have had season tickets (at a range of clubs) for years who have stopped renewing. Whatever you pay, and however much disposable income you have, I think generally people want to see effort and commitment.
We all make commitments to be there every other week - to go to away games, to go to cup games and this impacts financially, annoys our partners as we are unavailable, changes when we work. If Leeds play 100% on Sat and somehow lose by 40 points I will be less bothered than if they bumble along and scam a win from it somehow.
So I will watch on TV, I will scream and eff and jeff at the TV, get told to be quiet by others in the house and will probably be unable to focus on my project after if we lose as I will be gutted. That is my commitment to them in this game, as theirs has fallen short for several weeks now and worst of all is that there hasn't been any noticeable effort to give 100% and come back through the other side of it.
I know it isn't the same thing, but if you are in a relationship with someone and when you meet up they just go through the motions and are pretty half-a$$sed about everything, but keep offering you future dates (that you have to pay for), eventually you say 'i'm not really getting back equivalent from what i have been putting in for the last few months - so i think i will skip this time and go out with my mates instead, thanks'.
Then maybe next time the date will put a bit more effort in, knowing that you won't just blindly and loyally accept everything they throw at you...
Hmm.

| Can't even sell 8,000 tickets? So much for a self-styled 'big club'.
We've sold all our tickets for our game as have our neighbours Warrington.
Conclusion...RL fans west of the Pennines are far more passionate about our clubs.

You heroic son of a gun, stories will be written and films made depicting the lengths and events of your effort and commitment.

Terrible comparison. In rugby the commitment for the team is to perform at a very high level and show great effort and put on an entertaining show and put their bodies on the line.....whereas the commitment for the fan is to turn up and watch. Pity any potential partner for you with that thinking
