| A hugely talented player, who left it a little late in his career to really capitalise on that talent. Before Tony Smith got to Wire he oscillated too much between the sublime and the ridiculous. Then he nearly ended up on the scrapheap at Barrow, but since then he's been more consistent and finally the player he could have been.
I haven't always liked him much, but both for his play and for being a character the league is poorer without him.

| A great player and a great character in an era when the game is lacking them.
I remember him stepping in for Goulding at Saints. Aside from Kev and Morley how many more players are left that played pre super league?

| Didn't he admitt that he hadn't made the best of his ability until late in his career?
On his day a very, very good passer of the ball, with vision way beyond most halfbacks. I remember having a read of Tallis' autobiography and before Oz played Wales Alfie Langer had told him that Briers could be good or awful. The first half of that game Tallis admitted that Briers tore Oz apart - and he's probably the last halfback from the Northern Hemisphere with the ability to do that.
I'm glad he was able to win a couple of Challenge Cups. He'll certainly be missed from the game.

| Sh*thouse or Penthouse - he was the bipolar equivalent for a rugby player.
Never the less a character the game can least afford to lose.

| Cant say I like the guy, but against us in the playoffs he proved he still had the craft, apart from the Ablett incident he was brilliant. Warrington will be a worse side without him next year. They seem to have a big player turn over, especially with the old guard.

Young Kev made his debut in 1997.

| Great player, big loss to SL
Our game would be a much better place with more Lee Briers in it

| Will definitely miss him. As G1 said, a character in a game that seems determined over the last few years to clense itself of them. The internet has given people whose opinions are best left in their bedrooms with their pile of soiled porn mags and their collection of empty cider cans the chance to spout public vitriol about anyone displaying a personality or playing the game with anything resembling self confidence. Cocky half backs are what the game used to churn out by the bucket load and he's just about the last of the breed.
Have a happy retirement Mr Briers.

| A great 'love to hate' player. Not so much recently, when Warrington got any good, but for many years he was a superb cartoon villain.

| One of the best players of the SL era - a loss to the game, Myler as good a player as he is pales into insignificance by comparison

| From an England perspective, good news in that it means both Myler and Ratchford will have to start playing like half backs instead of just following Trent Waterhouse around looking for offloads.
