| Quote: nantwichexile "For me next season should be about building for the future....so starting positions for Ward (LF), Sutcliffe (SO) and Singleton (Prop).
I perceive that Leeds (again) will not be looking to strengthen from outside with the undoubted priority of a decent hooker, so based on my opening statement I would feel Leeds will need to start Sinfield as starting hooker with Burrow/McGuire at SH/on bench.
1/ Hardaker PLEASE DO NOT LET HIM GO. He is the best FB in SL
2/ Hall BEST PARTNERED WITH Watkins; his 'partnersip' with Moon never worked.
3/ Watkins FOR GAWD'S SAKE GIVE HIM THE BALL...early !!
4/ Moon
5/ Briscoe
6/ Sutcliffe GIVE HIM THE RESPONSIBILITY for last tackle plays
7/ McGuire/Burrow NEITHER IS IDEAL. but Leeds will DEF not be signing a [igood[/i SH
8/ Delaney NOW HIS NATURAL POSITION, IF McDermott hasn't flogged his body to the knacker's yard
9/ Sinfield Get him defending in t'middle where he [iis[/i effective.Certainly more so than Burrow
10/ Singleton
11/ Achurch PROMISING BALL OFF LOADING SKILLS. Just needs to know not to be so risky in his own half
12/Ablett
13/Ward
14/Burrow/McGuire
15/Peacock USE THE OLD WAR HORSES SPARINGLY
16/JJB
17Lleulai'"
Could do what Warrington did last year and change the front row all at once.

No loyalty from me, but I would still have him at hooker for a run out before I played Sinfield there.

Did think about that too.....but we would just have the same problems in defence rather[/i have seen McShane/Hood on the bench in 2014 to Burrow/McGuire, but really cannot see either of the latter two being moved on next season.

Why? What about McGuire's rapidly declining skillset makes you think he's suited to play at dummy half?

I don't think he does have a rapidly declining skill set. If anything he is better in that area than he was 10 years ago. He has rapidly declining pace though which limits the showing of that skill set.
I wouldn't play our most creative player and leader in the hooking role, where it limits what he can do. I only suggested I would try McGuire there before playing Sinfield there.

| Think these last few posts underline the main problem in our squad. McGuire at hooker FFS?
Come on Gawy, enough is enough. We need a decent 9 or else you may as well write off next season now.

I'd agree with this. Not sure McGuire can handle the physicality of hooker, although the same could be said of Burrow.
I'd like to give McGuire an extended run in the team next year (injuries permitting) before declaring him surplus to requirements and handing over the reigns (fully) to Sutcliffe.
McGuire was one of a number of players that appeared to have been brought back from injury too soon at the end of the season (throw in Watkins, JJB and Delaney as well), which with the benefit of hindsight definitely backfired for us in the play-offs. Assuming the experienced players don't declare themselves fit and pick the team for themselves, the coaching staff have to take a fair share of blame here.

| Wow. Amazing how quick McGuire gets the crap thrown at him. I'm sure he could have done what mighty Sir Kev couldn't and broke the giants of Italian rugby leagues defence up. Anyway I digress let's talk about how wonderful Bailey is...

Can't argue with the crappy performance from Sinfield et all ... But although it is often said Sinfield is not a stand off ( and it is difficult to argue with that .....especially against the quality of the Aussie or NZ national teams ) he does - normally - still offer the virtues of his sometimes sublime kicking game and leadership abilities.
Burrow still has his pace and unpredictability ( which can be both bad as well as good of course ) .....BUT poor old Mags has lost his major asset of pace in the half break or in support to finish a move. He has improved his game in other areas, but not enough IMO to be commanding a starting half back position for a team with any pretence of winning trophies. He is 'shot ' I'm afraid.
Ward, Sutcliffe (LF or SO between them) and Burrow for me next season ....with Sinfield sharing hooking with Aiton

Agree with most of that. I don't think he's shot, but I don't think he offers enough as a starting half back. I'm not sure Sutcliffe offers more yet, but with game time he could

| Think McGuire can still play a part especially early on in the season. With Sinfield and Burrow being on England duty and Ward will not have played a SL game for nearly 10 months by the time the season starts then I think he could do a job whilst the ones mentioned get eased into the start of the campaign.

| McGuire isn't as quick as he used to be, but he's our most creative half when he's fit.
The big questions are, can Sutcliffe and Ward deliver when given responsibility for running the attack? And crucially can they do it yet? Neither has had any spell at all as the key man in an attacking structure at senior level. So having them both as a halfback pairing seems a risky ploy. Patience is a virtue.
