Quote: El Diablo "2008 was just a super game, nad I was caught up in the received script that Saints had let it slip through their fingersw the year before and were going to exact revenge, having been much more comfortable against us in the play-off game at KR. It was the only one I'd really completely written us off for. So that was probably my favourite.'"
The 2008 Saints hype was over the top. They should have been favourites, they were in better form, had gone on a long unbeaten run and beat Leeds well in the semi, however, Leeds led the table for much of the year and only lost the top spot to Saints in the last quarter of the season as I remember. Leeds (the Champions) were completely dismissed, it was rediculous.
In 2007 Leeds missed out on finishing top when Rob Burrow missed a last second penalty kick that would have won the game at Wigan, yet Saints were firm favourites then also.
The boards back then were all about Saints being the real champions, 2007 was a fluke, etc, etc, etc.
Leeds crushed Saints in 2008. It was a complete performance and the 8 point margin didn't reflect the way Leeds dominated that game from the minute after James Graham scored (when Saints players seemed to think the match was over).
2009 I never doubted Leeds would win, same last year - I knew they would beat Warrington. 2011 I wasn't so sure but was pretty confident. 2004 and 2007 I was pooping myself.
