I think he will still be in charge next week. Can't see him going just because of this. We might not see him as VR again mind

| I hear phil Clarke just trying to stick up for Steve ganson. Comparing his error to a forward pass saying we are more critical of a video ref than a forward pass but both can be just as costly
Hmmmm

He has all the time in world (you know what I mean) to make a vital call & he still messed it up. I think he has just made a stupid error but equally if you are the RFL Board then you might have to suspect another motive & as such they probably should suspend him with immediate effect, investigate to see if there is anything more sinister going on (which I doubt & hope there isn't) & then make a call on his future.

Agreed, maybe that provides a way out for the RFL, Ganson makes a public apology for his error, the RFL acknowledge the error, maybe even order a replay of the game, & he never takes the field or the video seat again!

He's cost a team and given his role that is unacceptable

| From that decision a serious investigation must be undertaken. Does the rfl have the ability to look into this in any depth? So blatant was that 'error' it can't possibly be a simple mistake. I can only imagine that Ganson knows a rule we don't. It can be the only explanation!

#Rugbyleague RFL statement - The RFL have admitted that video referee Steve Ganson made an incorrect decision in awarding a try to Chris Green of Hull FC in the closing stages Super League fixture against Hull Kingston Rovers at the Etihad Stadium today.
RFL Head of Match Officials Jon Sharp said: “We have reviewed the decision and it is clear that Steve made the wrong call.
“Honesty and accountability are important to the Match Officials Department and we can only apologise for the error.
“Steve has been in contact with Hull Kingston Rovers and offered his apologies: he is one of the sport’s most experienced officials and deeply regrets having got it wrong.
“As with all fixtures, we will conduct a full review of the performance of our match officials following Magic Weekend and will take what steps we can to ensure that mistakes like this do not happen again.”

Experienced official and yet gives a try which everyone else saw as being offside. Can't beat Steve Ganson balls up can you?!

After this & both the RFL & seemingly the official admitting he made a gross error then he should be suspended from officiating at any level until a full review has been conducted.
The RFL, assuming that they don't want Steve Ganson to go, have to now order a replay of the game. I don't know what they will do about a venue, but I assume Headingley could made available?
The governing body can't admit that a match official has made an error and not take some sort of action, either to punish the official severely or provide an opportunity for Hull KR to try for the points again. I would like to think that Hull FC would offer to play the game again in both the interests of fairness & also of protecting their integrity to the people of Hull.

Did you suggest this after Millennium Magic in 2007?

No, but as already explained, there is a big difference between the two incidents IMO. Ganson made a mistake in 2007 while being the man in the middle. His mistake was ultimately that he didn't go to the video ref to check on-side off-side, but equally he made his call & while it was wrong he did it as the man in the middle who has to make these calls based on his understand of the evidence. Thaler, didn't make the same mistake as Ganson, he did ask for a video ref call. Had Thaler just given the try, as Ganson gave it, I would have said exactly what I said in 2007, he got it wrong but the result should stand, he made a mistake, a big one, but it was just that, a mistake made based on his understanding of the evidence.
Lets look at 2007... everyone's assumption, based on clear video evidence after the call made by Ganson, the wrong one, was that the video ref would have clearly spotted that Tansey was offside at the kick? He would have ruled a no try & awarded Bradford a penalty & they would have correctly taken the result. But what would have happened if (can't now remember who the video ref was in 2007) the video ref had still awarded the try... what then? This is the hypothetical situation we should using to judge today's Ganson error on, not the one he actually made in 2007.
A replay, IMO, should be ordered to protect the integrity of the sport.

Madness.
Sport is all about human endeavor and foibles otherwise they'd just show a video game where nothing ever goes wrong and the computer makes all the decisions based on its own animations.
If this was a normal weekend and it wasn't one of the televised games then no-one would be any the wiser, certainly no-one outside of Hull anyway, you win some you lose some, HKR are owed one and they'll more than likely get it in the next few weeks.
