Think about it.
Leeds are on Sky / BBC more than any other club, with Ablett pretty much an ever-present in the Leeds side.
People new to watching RL will see his ugly mug more and more, and if they're not so disgusted as to turn the tv off at that moment, they won't tune in again. Kids get nightmares, mums think halloween has come early.
Put off RL for life they are.
Parents now reluctant to take their kids down to rugby training as they don't want their kid to come back a 'mini-Ablett'.
RL analysts have described it as the 'Grotesque Ablett Domino Effect (GADE). |

Football is a well established game, whereas RL in comparison is a fledgling sport still under development. Football can afford to carry Wayne Rooney, RL cant afford to carry the likes of Carl Ablett |

Leeds Rugby League can only dream of once again scaling the heights of the pan-faced player award achieved with aplomb by Leeds' own Alan Smith and almost emulated decades later by Wigans Andy Farrell.
You can't speak of ugly players without a special mention for the sub-section "Pan Faced".

This is true.
The FA forced Wayne to get a hair transplant in an effort to make him less ugly. The FA paid for the procedure. The RFL can't afford to buy Ablett a face transplant. |

Rugby Football Union was founded in 1871 with the Northern Union being established in 1895 - hardly a "fledgling sport" now is it?
The Football Association founded in 1863 a massive 8 years before the first governing body for Rugby was founded so by comparison really not that much between them. |

Not really my point but nicely emphasises the gulf between the sports contemporaneously given their pretty level starting points.
RL is a fledgling sport and therefore CAN NOT afford faces like Carl Ablett's representing it.
