Football is a well established game, whereas RL in comparison is a fledgling sport still under development. Football can afford to carry Wayne Rooney, RL cant afford to carry the likes of Carl Ablett

The Football Association founded in 1863 a massive 8 years before the first governing body for Rugby was founded so by comparison really not that much between them.
