Wasn't he just playing? I took it he was trying to put a different slant on Gryf Rhys Jones.
With the Gryf been Griffin.

| Is there even confirmation of an announcement? It's all rubbish imo...

| The administrators tried to flog Murphy to Huddersfield earlier in the season but he declined, preferring to stay and help Wakefield out of the hole they were in.
Was at Leeds as a junior IIRC?
He'd be useful cover for the threequarters, nothing more than that at this stage though IMO.
Love all the talk of signing the likes of Lawrence or Cudjoe - some real cloud cuckoo land stuff on this thread so far.
More evidence of the arrogance of some Leeds fans, believing the club can sign whoever it wants from wherever it wants at any time.

Is it really arrogant? Regardless of current form and league positions Leeds are a significantly bigger club than the Giants.
Are Huddersfield able to spend the full cap? I thought they weren't (they're attendances are significantly lower than the likes of Wigan, Saints, Leeds, Wire, Hull etc)
They have a really good squad this year with decent depth but if they're not able to spend the full cap surely they'll struggle to keep some of their talent over the next couple of years. They have a lot of players who have become England internationals/Knights squad members over the last year or so.

To sign a player still under contract, all the following have to happen:
1) His current club have to want/need to sell - if they've got ambitions of challenging for honours themselves and don't need to balance the books, why would a side sell one of its best players?
2) Once they've decided they are prepared to sell, it has to be at a price that the buying club think is fair - again, unless you have to get rid for financial reasons, you're going to be asking over the odds so you can go out and sign a better/equal replacement yourself. The buying club meanwhile may not want to pay what the seller is demanding.
3) The buying club has to have enough spare change down the back of its sofa to afford the transfer fee, or be able to borrow/agree an instalment payment with the selling club - not a given, particularly if it's paying for a major capital project or dealing with falling revenues for example.
4) The player has to want to move - if he perceives his current club is better placed to challenge for honours in the near future, is he going to want to sacrifice that in exchange for possibly a few extra quid a week in his pocket?
The days of Leeds rocking up with their chequebook and buying anyone they wanted (that Wigan hadn't already signed) are hopefully long gone. It's no coincidence that two clubs managed by the Doug Laughton school of chequebook coaching ended up on their knees financially.
As an aside, let's say Leeds went to Huddersfield and asked how much they wanted for Cudjoe. Given Leeds themselves set the market with the last decent sized cash transfer (Zak Hardaker), how much do you think the Giants would want for Cudjoe? Reckon Leeds have the cash to finance it? I don't.

Is it really arrogance? No one is talking about bringing in slater Cameron smith etc and just expecting we can just get then. No one appears to be suggesting that we can just walk in and get Cudjoe and Lawrence either, although they would be not off limits for us to sign. I don't think we assume we can sign who we want at all.

I'd have thought Huddersfield's ability to pay up to the maximum salary cap is determined much more by the depths of Ken Davy's pocket rather than the size of the subsidised home crowd (do they still have the cheap season ticket deal?) attracted into the Galpharm on matchday.
