Although the defender was obstructed, it is doubtful whether he would have reached the attacking player and so I guess that's why the try was given. Didn't really see it at the match but reviewing on Sky+ shows it. As for the Cas try ruled out you may well be right.
We all get angry at individual decisions, but in the end it mostly evens out.

I'll try to if I'm making a serious point.

Really?
The obstruction clearly stopped the Cas player doing his job and helped yopu lot create the movement to score

| Any player ahead of the ball and/or ball-carrier interfering with the defensive line should be an automatic penalty ...... shouldn't it? His job is to run an angle that holds the defensive drift (avoiding contact) not barrell into players and sit them on their a[irse[/is, creating a gap or preventing a defender tackling his designated man.
Occasionally a defender will make a bad read/take the easy option and instigate the contact looking to draw the penalty but more often than not they are staying in line following the ball.

Just had another look. If the obstructed Cas player had not been obstructed, he would have been blocked by one of the other Cas players who was trying (but failed) to tackle Carmont. Therefore he would not have got to Carmont.
Have another look at it.

That's certainly the theory, but whether a dummy runner can always guarantee a completely clear path through the defensive line is questionable. At the end of the day it's probably best to let the VR decide whether the obstruction really did contribute to the try. Doesn't help at non-televised matches though!

Heard the interview on Radio Manc last night. Interestingly he said [i"If it had gone between the posts it would have been a valid drop goal"[/i.
Although that may be true, it is highly unlikely it would have gone between the posts from the position Danny was in, and the direction he kicked it!!!
Surely the fact that Danny was [inot [/igoing for a drop goal has some influence on the decision?

Not at all.
Drop Kick <> Drop Goal.
You have to drop kick a drop goal but you don't have to kick a drop goal to do a drop kick........
... That made sense in my head. Sorry.

It makes sense OK, but seems a particularly strange thing for Danny to be doing at that point in the game!
Does it mean if a plyer drops the ball accidentally all he needs to do a stretch out and boot it

| From my point of view (that is Sky's coverage) there was not sufficient seperation of ball to intended foot at the precise point the ball hit terra-firma for it to be clearly ruled a knock-on. It's even arguable from the footage that the toe of McGuire's right boot was in simultaneous contact at that precise point.
My argument though would be along the lines of taking two minutes to decide implies it to be an incredible tight call and given we have the benefit of doubt going to the attacking team available to the video official, Leeds were unfortunate not to get the decision. The game was then potentially robbed of an even more exciting finish given there were still four minutes to play and any of three results still possible.
Having seen Wigan go all out at Headingley earlier in the season this one rather fizzled out by comparison.

Careful how you tread. Ben Cross was signed on the back of Buderus' seal of approval. That worked.
