| Quote: Gotcha "Because IMO he has carried that Saints team all season, and that's no disrespect to his team mates. The guy is a machine. Not only a machine but I would go as far to say that he is rapidly becoming, again IMO, the best all round prop forward I have ever seen in the game. And I have been watching 32 years now. His passing game is as good as half backs, he is just as fast as centres, and his power in the collission is up there with any other forward.
As a rugby league fan, but somebody who does not like Saints at all, he is still a joy to watch for me.'"
am I the only one who thinks Jammer this year hasnt been as good as last year then?!

I hope you are. But to be honest that would be irrelevant anyway. Like I said before the lad has carried that Saints pack this year, filling in consistently where Saints have suffered quite a lot of injuries.
Did Saints suffer as many injuries last season?

Dont get me wrong, I think he's a great forward but at times I think this season he almost seems to have "too much to do". I am comparing him to last years form though
I dont think they did

| Quote: Gotcha "I think RhinoNeil has answered Gareths post pretty spot on.
I can't believe you posted that Gareth. What happend to Stats mean nothing? Not only that but you actually compared the stats of a forward moving between backrow and prop, to that of a winger moving between fullback.
I know which players I would prefer in my team, and Westwood and Graham would be well ahead of Richards on that score. And that is no put down to Richards, who as I said above probably should get player of year for his achievements above anything else.'"
The point I was obviously demonstrating was that Richards has done much more than simply score tries and kick goals. RhinoNeil's post did nothing to diminish that inescapable fact.

The press don't vote for MOS anymore. It got taken off them the year they gave it to Roby.

But wouldn't that point have been better served had you just matched him up to the other dream team winger, say in Hall?
Had you done that and taken away the goal kicks, and the kicks in play (remember Richards does all their drop outs), then the stats are not a million miles apart. Would you consider Hall unlucky to have missed out on MOS?

Apologies, I thought it was now press and 1st team squad players from each club as opposed to an 'expert panel'. Is it just the players that vote only then?

I considered Hall unlucky last year and put him forward for a MOS candidate for the reasons I think Richards is.
Ignorant opposition fans dismissed it saying he was just a try scorer and his tries were laid on a plate by Senior. They were wrong. He did so much more for his team, as Richards had done this year.
I am not saying Westwood or Graham are not worthy candidates, they are. Are you saying Richards isn't a worthy candidate?

I'm saying Richards isn't a worthy candidate for MOS. But perhaps I am a bit of a traditionist there. I consider the forwards or the very creative halfbacks to be more of a MOS player, than I do backs.
I have no problem in Richards been given player of the year, for his achievements in the points he has scored, whether they are handed on a plate for him or not. But I don't think points scored for a winger and especially a goal kicking one, should play any part in been awarded MOS.

then we must disagree for the reasons I have stated above.
Quote: Gotcha "But I don't think points scored for a winger and especially a goal kicking one, should play any part in been awarded MOS.'" Whilst I am happy to disagree like grown ups I really don't think you've properly considered the points I made above about Richard's contribution at all.
You clearly have a preconceived notion that a winger shouldn't be MOS and, therefore, are not approaching it with an open mind.

I've considered your points and viewed those stats against other wingers, and taking the goals and kicking in play out of the question, it is pretty much a level playing field. Therefore the conclusion is that his potential accolade is coming from points scored.
Quote: G1 "You clearly have a preconceived notion that a winger shouldn't be MOS and, therefore, are not approaching it with an open mind.'"
I don't actually dispute that and I am quite open about it as explained above. But who got MOS in 2004? I can't remember, but Vaikona had a far superior season for the Bulls that year than Richards has had this year. I think a winger scoring a record amount of tries for the competition and setting ones up for others, I could understand a lot more for MOS.
Like I said, I am not taking away Richards achievements this year, I would certainly rather see my team not play against him than to play against him, but I just don't see him as deserving for MOS against others in the comp.

| I think Danny McGuire should be a serious conternder for MOS. He has been constently very good in an injury hit out of sorts Leeds side and has almost single handedly kept us in the running for silverwear this year. Richards has also had a fine season but he has had the great benefit of playing behind the most consistent form side in SL. He is a great finisher and kicker but has been on the end of a conveyor belt of scoring chances. So my vote goes to Danny for producing the goods all on his own week in and week out.
