Delaney to second row; Hall to centre and then later into back row; Smithy to stand off (maybe not now.....but you just wait and see
I'm not seeing Smith at stand off to be honest. I don't think he's got the passing game. I can certainly see Senior spending a large part of next season in the second row with Smith, BJB and Watkins covering centre between them. I don't think we'll see Delaney in the 2nd row, not now anyway, but I believe it will happen in the long term, in much the same way as Phil Bailey moved into the 2nd row.
All of this would be better left to next season now though.

Of course....don't disagree with that at all. Too late this season.
Smithy is still young....he has time to improve his passing game. It might never happen of course, but I would never rule out anything as others are all too willing to do.
Would rather see the centre options as you suggest ......even Ablett before Delaney next season. (Delaney could even be a future prop for me. )

| To be a little bit fair to Delaney he's possibly better on the left side than the right. But he really is the sort of player that at best ought to be signed by lower placed clubs than ones hopefully competing for the title. I was underwhelmed by his signing and the mere fact that moving him into the forwards is being discussed (albeit by fans and possibly not by the coach) says it all.

| Quote: Gotcha "I personally think the team would be best served with Senior in the centres probably for the play offs. But there is no doubting his defense was far better from the second row than it has shown up at centre.
I also have to agree with others that Delaney was quite simply a massive dissapointment on Saturday. To say his display was rubbish would be been fair.
But then again Delaney has done his job on most occassions this year, and in all fairness despite me been a big Smith fan, he should not escape any critisism of his failure to score that try on Saturday.'"
On Delanney - I wonder what is sapping his energy - his mind doesn't seem to be on the job

After watching the match again....thinking he might have been trying to emulate his mate Luke if not to play prop (which is feasible) then certainly for the feat of dropping the ball.

| There's no harm in trying different options - good to have that versatility. Would like to see someone with pace in the three-quarters next season though now Scotty D won't be with us.
I think Ablett has played his best for us at loose forward and we look a more balanced team with Sinny at 6 & McGuire at 7 (Sinny's form has dropped considerably since returning to LF). I would also prefer to see Rob Burrow on the bench to cover 6, 7 & 9 - ineliminating the need for 2 specialist hookers in the 17 (cue outrage from certain Southstanders....!)

| Delaney gets far too much stick on this board. From a defensive point of view he offers more at centre than any other player at the club, and his workrate is better than some of the forwards.
Isn't it a bit late to be discussing the merits of the signing? He's no Inglis but he still managed to keep him pretty quiet against us in the WCC. I doubt he will be on an inflated salary unlike other overseas marquee players such as Webb, Lauitiiti and Buderus, all of whom have been criticised at various stages this season on this messageboard for not living upto their reputations and alleged salaries. If anything, I'd imagine Delaney gives us more bang for the buck than each of these, because he's still young and his career hasn't been ravaged by injury (although I have no idea what he is earning).

I'm no big Burrow fan from an attacking point of view, I have called for a while that we should have got a world class half back to work with Mcguire, as I think Burrows tricks are found out, and he is not the force he was.
That said, I don't go along with the thought that we looked a more balance team with Sinfield at 6. Infact I think we look a better side since Burrow returned, and Burrow his worth his place from a defensive point of view. I think we were sadly lacking from the loose position when Sinfield was at 6, as I don't think JJB is a capable replacement for there.
I do like the idea of Burrow been the impact hooker from the bench, but think we would need a class replacement in the half backs first, and not to just dump Sinfield there.

....BUT you yourself state "his workrate is better than some of the [iforwards[/i" !!! What does that perhaps suggest to you as to where his best position might be ??
I don't think anybody is doubting his merits of defence and driving the ball in....he doesn't get "stick" ...he is a valued member of the squad for me, just not as a centre.
