| You could also drop Senior and play Smith and Delaney in the centres, Hall and Donald on the wings.
If you drop McGuire you have Webb to come in and play as a pivot from FB anyway so that makes it 3 as usual with Sinfield and Burrow.

| I'd play McGuire. Him and Burrow haven't had that many games together over the past few months so I'd give them another run this week.

| As previous posters, we have had injurys so some of the partnerships ( Rob & Danny for instance) have not played together often this year. So we need to play the potential Wembley squad, we've just hitting the right sort of fluency and need to keep it going. Wembley is a dream but there are other vital games still to play, lets shock the pies and get that 4 in a row.

| It doesnt really matter if they play together. Rob will still kill the attack at every given oportunity by not passing the ball wide

| Quote: Norman Stanley Fletcher "Rest my ar$e!
Could you see Roy Francis or Syd Hynes resting anyone?'"
In 1978 not only did Syd Hynes rest players before Wembley he also rested virtually his full 1st grade team before the Semi-Final at Odsal.
We went to Hull KR, got mullered with only really Neil Hague in there to continue his try-scoring run (which he did) and then in the final League round of the season at home to Warrington Hynes selected [i'almost certainly the youngest team Leeds have turned out'[/i according to the YEP's Trevor Watson. Average age of the side was 21 and that included Stan Fearnley and there were 3 players (Tony Binder, Ricky Winterbottom and John Carroll) making their debuts ...... and we still won.
Personally I wouldn't have Webb, Senior, McGuire, Buderus or Sinfield anywhere near this match.

Glad you have the details. I was certain Syd rested players for a Final.

Fully agree.
1. We should be able to beat the bottom side without these 5 and it gives others a chance to earn a Wembley spot with a big performance.
2. The Cup is our stated main objective this season and now without JP our chances have already taken a big hit - so why risk our key men and the Cup.
3. At the very worst we would finish 5th and still in with a great chance in the playoffs.
4. IMO The balance of risk is worth taking as I believe we will finish 4th anyway.

Not exactly... We could still finish 7th if we lose tomorrow and subsequently to Hull away.

Indeed...we could still finish 6th or 7th even if we win tomorrow and lose at Hull if both Hull KR and Huddersfield win their last two (Giants would only actually have to win one if we lose one due to their far superior points difference)
For Hull KR to overtake us we'd need to lose both our games and them win both due to our better points difference so all a win does tomorrow is guarantee us 6th at worse.

If we lose tomorrow and against Hull then we are unlikely to beat any of the top 4 so make sure we win the Cup!

Tony Binder I remember playing against him in my youth.

| Paul Gill a potential all time great?
Paul Gill even before the broken leg was never likely to be anymore than a solid, reliable (but slow) full-back. The injury forced him into the pack where he did some sterling service leading the 'A' team to several honours along with John Holmes.
John Carroll could have been our Lee Crooks (without wasting the money on actually eventually signing the disinterested, drunken washout) but for the compound fracture (Chev Walker like) injury on the sands of the Recreation Ground. You could hear the snap from the terraces. It left him with a permanent limp and one leg slightly shorter than the other .... what might have been.

| Paul Gill gets mentioned regarding the A team days in the John holmes biography, I thought he had class & made time by intelligence rather than e.t like speed but we'll never know
Crooks and alcohol, killed his career. Kevin Dick went the other way to Hull with similar results.
kevin dick or Mark conway was the tough decision in cup games in the early 80s , Conway iirc had a great game against widns in the all penalties semi final . The hull game with the close scoreline mentioned previously i'm sure Kevin took a dive to win a late penalty.
