most memorable part of the night for me was the ironic clapping and cheering of the Leeds players by the Saints fans when they trooped back to the eastern terrace end after scoring their first try

I was thinking about that game too but 70 - 0 Saints at home it was so sweet especially after they'd just slaughtered us in the CC 54 - 10 (I think).

Really!!! - I wasn't 100% about the score but could have sworn it was a cup game as a month or two later we turned them over at Knowlsey as well. But then again I remember watching highlights of England vs France a few month after the game a couple years ago and commenting to the missus that the attendance was a bit shabby and maybe we should have gone - she then reminded me that we did go!

33-26 in 2003 I think. The semi against saints that went into extra time. Mcguire scoring in the corner and sinfield kicking the conversion as time expired. Sinfield then kicked a drop goal, I think, before furner popped up an offload that sent Mcguire half the length of the pitch to wrap it up

Remembering the game, I think it not being on TV helped us to win. At least one of the tries came from a long range kick and chase from Claderwood (IIRC), and it would certainly have gone to the video ref. At the time, that would have stopped our momentum. As it was, we just ran over Stains like a train in that last 15 minutes or so.

Rumours abounded at the time that the players, after an abysmal first 63 minutes, decided to forget Powell's directions and play how they wanted to.
