Quote: Inflatable_Armadillo "This presents some of the same problems having it Edinburgh in May does. Hotels in Edinburgh are probably more expensive than in London in May I suspect, as there are less beds available, but July & August in London is peak tourist season and weekend hotel beds are very expensive. Plus, you are now less than 8 weeks away from the Challenge Cup in London at the end of August.

Cardiff worked to some extent because it was cheaper than either Edinburgh or London, the stadium has a roof, weather good, keep it open, weather bad, close it.'"

London in May leaves two venues IMO and that is Wembley & Twickers. Now having gone to Twickers for the CC Final a few year back, it was an impressive stadium in the right location, plently of boozers, shops locally etc, just a shame about the leg room. I've never been to Wembley, but i hear it has many draw backs, more than Twickers.

If we had it at Twickers we could throw in a Skolars game at the stoop, cheap entry and increase their publicity too!

Does anyone know the amount that Edinburgh pays to have the magic weekend there? because i dont think london would pay to have it, so that lost revenue would have to be made up somewhere, either financially in more tickets sold/more expensve tickets, or in other ways, like greater exposure for the game in general, more people in london/south east becoiming involved in the sport in some manner, but im guessing that richard lewis cant balance the books with subjectivity < insert melbourne storm joke >.

Wembley is actually ok now. The sightlines are excellent, the legroom good, and Wembley Park station has been completely revamped making it a lot easier to get to and from (certainly easier than Twickenham). The bars and still poor and playing surface obviously not good, but it's a much improved stadium from when it shut down.

Anyway, you'll see in a couple of months icon_biggrin.gif

first time I wont be at a Magic Weekend to watch Rhinos play

Murrayfield experiance last year left me underwhelmed compared to the visits to Cardiff the previous years

Wembley should be kept for the CC final only.

How about moving it to Dublin?

I would give it 5mins before the Sky "comedy" double act talk about they "..expect to increase in size every year"

Why not Cardiff?

It's proven to host Rugby League Games at the Millenium before, cracking stadium also. Plenty of pubs in and around Cardiff!

Like I said in one of my other posts I think Newcastle St James would be great. Lots of cheap enough places to stay in and around. Ground not massive but big enough to look full. Excellent pubs, restaurants all close to ground/in the centre. Not as bog a hike as Edinburgh or Cardiff or Ireland as the RFL were once on about I believe.

Seconded. Cracking stadium, lots of things to do around there, just a bugger to get away from.

1) would Newcastle pay to host the event - probably not
2) is there enough hotels to host everybody - probably not

1. I don't know. I was merely pointing out as was everybody else a venue that could be possibly more suitable to the supporters for the magic weekend.
2. With all the surrounding areas included - definatley.

this is the only stumbling block
and it is the main one, if we could convince them to do so it would be a great venue
was walking through the town centre an hour before kickoff on saturday and it was a great atmosphere, similar to cardiff
given the number of people that travel here for stags and hens i think there are plenty of places to stay (but they dont need to attract more numbers so why wold the tourist board pay the rfl?)

Good idea. Easily do-able in a day too, as only 2hours from most of RL heartlands
