McClennan has done a perfectly adequate job so far given the team at his disposal this season. That can be turned into an outstanding job given favourable results in the next two matches.

This thread poses a purely hypothetical question but if Leeds were to lose another home cup tie it would be unprecedented in the SR Era and the season (I imagine) would be a major disappointment to the club.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg

Would getting to the GF constitute a good year or does McClennan have to win it?

For me I would be disappointed if they didn't win on Friday but it should not cost McClennan his job - however the standard of play - the last 4/5 games aside has been pretty dismal IMO.

Given the strength of next season's squad McClennan has no excuses and failure to deliver under those circumstances then questions should be asked - I personally don't expect that to happen - I think they will win the lot - comfortably

I think there's a good point here. Part of McClennan's success has been judged on the ability to get performances right at the most important stage of the season (i.e the very end) when it really counts. I think getting to the Grand Final and putting in a decent performance there is the minimum requirement for that being the case. I think finishing top and getting to the final would constitute a fairly good year, it can only be a very good year if we win it.

I still wouldn't favour McClennan's position being under threat if we didn't. I made that mistake with Smith in 2006, and since the bruises on my knees have now settled down, I wouldn't want to do the same again.

For me it has been an "interesting" season and to follow up two championship titles is always a big big ask.

So to improve on the league position by winning the minor title and to be within 80 mins of a third successive GF is a remarkable achievement by anyones standards.

Bluey did have me guessing on tactics about 2/3rd of the way when our discipline and game plans seemed questionable but as required he drew the rabbit out of the hat and deserves much credit for the final run in again.

Ali Senior Sinfield Hall Donald all seem to have hit the straps and look red hot. Perhaps the half backs could lift also a bit more. It will be intersting to see our packs against the Cats.

I do think this might be one game to many for the French side.

Looking forward to next season already regardless of the outcome over the next weeks.

I would rather have an average season, time our run to perfection and win the shield and the GF than play good all year and dont win when it matters..... As Saints

If we win the GF, will he not be equal most successful coach with Tony Smith?

2 x GF
1 x Shield
1 x WCC
I guess Tony got us to a CC Final as well……
If I'm right then a win at GF and a win in the WCC in feb and he will be the most successful Leeds coach..

Interesting because yuo'd have to somehow value Regal Trophies, Premierships, Yorkshire Cups and floodlit trophies etc against Championships.

I'd say 1 Camphionship = 8 Yorkshire Cups for a starter

I'll always think it's better thant that, as it was the first trophy I saw us win.

Saying that, once we had won it, it's remarkable how little of to55 we gave about winning it again.

Probably you should factor in the waxing and waning prestige of tournaments over time as well. If you wanted to do it properly.

Award points for each trophy in line with the difficulty in winning them.

Championship - 8
League Leaders - 6
Challenge Cup - 4
WCC - 2
Premiership - 4
JP - 4
Yorkshire - 2
Floodlit - 2

Something along those lines?

Along those lines though my grading would be different.

League Leaders (without a championship) = 5
Championship when won by leading league (no playoffs) = 8 (does this even trouble us?)
league Leadership and championship = 10 in total
Premiership shouldn't be the same as CC. reduce to 3
Same with JP = 3
WCC should be 3 IMO as there's no JPS, premiership etc for modern coaches to go for and you get this by winning a championship.

There must be some out there sad enough to get off on compiling the points for each coach once the points awards have been agreed upon. icon_wink.gif
