| Unquestionably the best thing I've seen on tv in a good few years.
Surprised me to find out that 3 of the main characters are British/Irish: cockney Stringer Bell, Dubliner Tommy Carcetti and Sheffield born (but Eton educated) Jimmy McNulty.

| I was fortunate enough to have a friend of my father recommend the Wire when it began in the US (and, allegedly, supply the means to watch it....allegedly). Unquestionably one of the greatest, if not the greatest TV drama.
As for other US output, little if anything comes close (although the Sopranos has to be worth a mention).
I thought the Sons of Anarchy was hugely disappointing. The concept of the show offered so much but they delivered a very run of the mill result.

Thanls for that, I'll speak to my 'US contact'...... allegedly

I knew about Bell and McNulty but not Carcetti - all three put in cracking performances.
There's a great in-joke type moment back in season 2, where McNulty does a terrible English accent.

| Coast is the only thing I make anything approaching an effort to watch these days. Finished now though.... until next time. That's good telly is that.
I'm liking that Lost Land of the Volcano thing at the moment, but I'm not sure how much longer that's going to be on for.
I'm also watching Chuck on DVD at the moment, which is quite amusing.
That is all.

Fancy checking that out but next I want to see "Generation Kill", again by David Simon/Ed Burns, but this time about Iraq (but like the Wire it's as much about the characters)
Also tempted to try one of Simon's books

Heroes and House both begain their new seasons in the US last night. Hopefully be watching tomorrow ish
Last night I watched last episode of season 1 of Dark Blue, which I thought was decent enough to warrant another season, which may not it seems happen. Shame.
Warehouse 13 is fun to watch
There's a new show called 'Bored to Death' which I hope to watch this week.

| Supernatural, True Blood and Harpers Island are all top quality.
I watched the Wire once, fell asleep and had the most incredible dream ever, however this was ruined by the fact that upon waking up Whiskey the Yorkshire Terrier was licking my nuts, strangely stimulating but on reflection slightly wrong.

Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets is excellent. It works like the best detective fiction, but gives insight into so much more than just policing or just Baltimore. The Corner is good too, but relentlessly hard work.

46993.gif The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves,
"You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.:46993.gif |

| It's all subjective, but without any shadow of a doubt the best drama I have personally ever watched. I was devastated when it ended. We'd taken Series 5 on holiday with us and had watched it all in the first 24 hours of being there. Omar is THE best character I have ever seen in a drama. He was a very brave character to inject into an American show. Everything the christian right in America would hate. He was a drug dealer, a homosexual, a drug stealer and an afro caribbean. Brilliant! I was so upset when he died the way he did. But then that too was very realistic. It wasn't about a final triumphant fire fight or car chase. The modern day Robin Hood. David simon and George Pelecanos are TV gods in my eyes. If you need a Wire fix get reading George's crime novels. Did I mention that I quite liked The Wire?
