It was an upset alright and Hull went on to take out the first division title that year.
I don't have easy access to the old scrapbooks at the moment though and that'd be my only resource for the finishing table that year. Oh hang on just thought of another...... back in a couple of minutes.
Edit12th in a 16 team first division, missing out on relegation by one place and one point.
Their record was:

Just found rlthisrl which says Fev came 12th of 16, although it is on Wikipedia I take the table as being correct.

I was there, I still have the program somewhere. Fantastic day, always great to see Hull lose. One of my strongest memories is seeing Hull fans spilling off a train completely clothed head to foot in black and white. Some girls had bought scarves and cut the top and bottom off and were wearing them as leggings. they were like walking humbugs.

As for today, I would have strongly fancied Hudds. but I think they made a big mistake last week at Stains - some of their players have not really had a decent game since the semi. Warrington can score points and on the day I think they will win by 12.

It was alleged yesterday on BBC News 24 that the 'Warrington' coach had sent a text to the Sports presenter and said 'he had a face for radio'.
Weird moment all round but it allowed the anchors to chortle and give fullsome praise to their fellow broadcaster.
