No he wasn't on trial for that. He pleaded guilty to the charge he was in court for and then his previous convictions should have been used when considering sentence. That's why it's relevant.

Violent crime has far more effect on those who directly witness its consequences. That's why we have impartial judges to decide punishments, not victims or their close friends.
The judge has applied what he feels is the correct sentence as an impartial observer and based on interpretation of the law, Longun is entitled to blow of some steam as well, and is entitled to have his opinion of Pryce as a despicable t@@t because of his direct experiences.
There are many others on here though that pass judgement on people based on heresay and ignorance.
