| Quote: HyperbolicRhino "There's a basic lack of common sense or appreciation of the true nature of a fan being shown here.... As fans we scrutinise what our team does far more carefully and indepth than we do with other team's players - it may be subconscious, but it's a fact nonetheless. Obviously, in flashpoint situations which are replayed over and over again, we then pay more attention to other team's players, but quite often we miss the quiet, unheralded things they do.
For this reason, every club has its unsung players - those players that the club's fans will notice, but opposition fans who don't see them week in week out don't. For a few years, JJB was a perfect example of this - quietly and unspectacularly going about doing a lot of hard work. Now of course he gets the deserved recognition for this. Bailey is a prime example of someone who puts in a lot of work and doesn't often get any recognition for it. Instead, opposition fans focus purely on a few flash point situations and base their opinion of him solely on that.
Fans who see Bailey avery week (well, those who have some degree of common sense anyway...) see Bailey as a damn good player, who has been in 3 Grand Final winning teams and 2 world club championship winning teams, and over this period has been picked on a regular basis by two of the best coaches in the game at the moment (as well as being picked to play at international level by the most successful British coach in the Super League era). Opposition fans see him as a thug. Which of the two opinions carries the most weight I wonder......'"

Then again, we all know how logically Pricky reacts to disappointment, don't we?

I have got to disagree with you fundamentaly I`m afraid.
The Saints fans have been calling consistently for Bailey Diskin and to a lesser extent Senior all to be banned for alleged foul or dirty play.
They have worked themselves up to a blind hysteria all week only to be emabarrased by all the rulings from the RFL.
Even worse is the total failure to accept any arguemnt that they are also being totally hypocritical to boot when the likes of Fasavalu Hooper and other Sainter players in the past have all been guilty of exactly the same sorts of indiscretions.
By and large... well no actually its almost a total majority of regular posters have accepted that the Saints deserved their victory on the day and where the better team with perhaps the exception of one notable individual.

Why thankyou!
The sad thing is though, I wouldn't claim for a second to be any kind of genius or expert in any way - I was just applying basic common sense and logic. Makes you wonder what they put in the water over there... either that or the standard of education in this country is declining even more than I thought!!

In the NRL your shoulder is classed as part of your arm, so a shoulder in the face is head high

Agreed but in this instance it was ruled Bailey didnt attempt to make contact with the head. The ball carrier was at fault and dipped into the tackle.

| The way I look at it that there will be similar tackles throughout the season against Leeds players that will rile the South Standers. It's not a criticism just the one eyed nature of rugby league supporters in general.
As for Bailey tackle I want more of the same. I was actually dissapointed McClenan pulled Bailey shortly afterwards - it was heading for fire works.

I'm not that disappointed. For me, he had done his job. Saints lost the plot for a few minutes, we brought on players with a bigger acctacking impact to capitalise

| It can all be traced back to a soggy night in Salford last October.
Since around 08:00pm that night there has been incessant bleating from the Scousers. It seems this time all the 'Hey, Hey, Hey, Heying' has been targetted unfairly at Ryan Bailey.
I'm sure he'll lose lots of sleep over it!

Bailey himself took one only a few weeks ago by Briscoe at HKR, I can't remember anyone on here bleating about it.

bailey is back playing his best, and its good to see as he seems to be concentrating more on his game than the 'other stuff'. england call up if he keeps it up? i wonder...'"
I'd love to see him play against Willy Mason again, there's some major fireworks for you!

Briscoe was a lot lower there was no reason for any interpretation of the rules

if it was in the NRL it would be borderline. agreed his head was coming down, but if the tackle is deemed to be a shoulder charge it is the players responsibility where his shoulder lands, regardless of whether the player is ducking or falling. all would depend on whether it was deemed to be a shoulder charge (not raising the arm of failing to bend the arm at the elbow is usually how this is judged to be the case). the rule was changed in interests of safety and shoulder charges have been banned in youth rugby in oz,which i think they should be here. kids dont learn anything from it, its usually just someone showboating.
i was involved in a game last year where our player made shoulder charge tackle which hit the attackers chest, both their head went forwards and both were knocked clean out and split their faces open around their eyes. we dont want to see that at any level. even if it does later make funny viewing on film...

| some people do get carried away. He had one of his better games and stood out in our pack.
Danny Ward has a GF ring and was picked by a top coach. You're not automatically a top player if you play in a winning team.
Bailey is a good squad player who has things he could work on, penalities and go forward being one but his aggression in defence, fitness, quick play of the ball for his reported salary make him a good bit of business.
Nothing wrong with the hit btw.
