| strike is on as per this email
Dear NFL Fan,
When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players' union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in.
Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players' union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that was, among other things, designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the players’ financial demands in the latter years of the agreement.
The proposal we made included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee a reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players ($82 million contributed by the owners over the next two years).
It was a deal that offered compromise, and would have ensured the well-being of our players and guaranteed the long-term future for the fans of the great game we all love so much. It was a deal where everyone would prosper.
We remain committed to collective bargaining and the federal mediation process until an agreement is reached, and call on the union to return to negotiations immediately. NFL players, clubs, and fans want an agreement. The only place it can be reached is at the bargaining table.
While we are disappointed with the union's actions, we remain steadfastly committed to reaching an agreement that serves the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans, and thank you for your continued support of our League. First and foremost it is your passion for the game that drives us all, and we will not lose sight of this as we continue to work for a deal that works for everyone.
Yours,
Roger Goodell

Good to see the NFLPA behaving like grown-ups and not using their most high profile players to drag the league through the courts.

The same Gene Upshaw that also de-certified the players union to enable to them to take anti-trust action, and the same Gene Upshaw that also took the players out on strike?

| So....I'm an English Dolphins fan, in Canada at the moment and taking the obvious interest in the CBA and the goings on where the lockout is concerned. There was a piece on the NFL network about teams for next year to "watch out for" and it had a section saying that a record number of teams were on the lookout for QB's.
As a Miami fan, although Henne improved throughout the season I would rather have a veteran playing whilst the backup QB is worked with. For me I think that was the plan with Pennington after Henne failed to impress in the first few weeks. But Injury strikes, such is life and Henne got the go.
The NFL Networks consensus is that Seahawks, Redskins, Cards, Dolphins, Bengals, Browns, Panthers, 49ers, Bills, Titans, Vikings and Raiders should all be looking for new QB's! 10 of those teams are in the first 15 drafting meaning there may be some a) missing out and b) having to cope with what they have.
On the front of who will be up there next season (providing there is a season) the usual suspects of Pats, Colts, Packs, Steelers etc are the teams being mentioned and IMO their all safe bets. Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the QB situations around the league. As I said; Miami fan so taking an interest big style. Unfortunately I dont think anything will change in South FLorida.

Speak for yourself. Over in our part of South Florida we look set for years to come with our future top 5 QB
I agree though there is some real dross around the league at the mo. Henne looked OK in patches as you said last year but struggled to take any sort of control over the team. He looks like he could have a future though, he just needs that extra time to develop. On the other hand though this season will be his 4th so he needs to step up soon. His Int/TD ratio would be a big worry for me. 27/33 over 2 full seasons isnt what you want to be seeing.
As for some of the other teams, whats your view on Carolina? Im not sure they should just give up on Clausen like that. He actually had a better QBR than Freeman in his first season and then look what happened to us last year. He does have the talent there. If they can draft well and bring in FA's in the right areas like we did then that will make Jimmy's job much easier. A change of coach might help them out too.
Teams that I think definitely need new QB's are the skins, Cards and 49ers from what I saw last year although G1 could give you more insight on Wash. I think the Bengals could do with what the have. Palmer had a problem with accuracy last year but I also believe he has 2 over rated WRs. TO was good back in the day and still has his moments but is getting on a bit now and gave up on too many plays last year. I love Chad Ocho as a personality but have qalkways thought he was overhyped. If he didnt change his name and have such a big mouth I dont think anyone would talk about him. Plus he thinks he's a soccer player these days, right?
Anyway thats just a little bit of feedback for you. I like to waffle on sometimes and you will probably only find 1 or 2 lines (if that) are about what you asked.

| Chad Henne is rubbish so I hope the Dolphins keep him as their franchise QB for many years to come for obvious reasons
The Dolphins will get rid/lose Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown in the near future so they need 2 RB's and a QB, I also think they look pretty weak in the reciever department aswell, Brandon Marshall is a great WR and I personally like Davone Bess but I reckon they could use some more WR's and TE's aswell not to mention Tony Sparano being in a no win situation after what the owners did to him last year!

| The QB situation is interesting.
The Skins would like one but if the best one or two are gone by our pick (10th) I think we will draft a later round developmental QB and play a season with Grossman as starter. If a CBA gets done I hpoe Minnesota or Arizona trade for McNabb but of there's no trade partners I suspect we cut him.
There'll be a few free agent QBs draw some interest this year, Vince Young will hit the market, Bulger may be looked at by Arizona, However, as has been said, the demand oustrips suply massively.
I hope a CBA gets done really soon because the Skins are scheduled to play in Miami this year and I fancy a trip there.
