Leaving aside the obvious front row issues, the sad truth is that in the key spine positions - full back, stand off, scrum half and hooker - our current options (with the possible exception of a fit Sezer) are nowhere near the best in the league in their position. The decision to extend Myler's contract was a classic example of our lack of ambition in this regard. Granted we are a better side when he is in it, but with 30 seconds thought I can name Field, Welsby, French, Tompkins, Coote and Connor. They are clearly much, much better Full Backs. Try the same exercise with Leeming and Austin and it gives you a sense of the size of the problem. Depressing.
