| Quote: PrinterThe "The equivalent at 2nd to Walker is Cameron Smith and he's been poor at Bradford. JJR did ok vs Wigan but in the context of the lineup and overall performance and didn't sound nothing special at Bradford earlier. He tried dropping Briscoe for Handley but the latter didn't do well enough.'"
Therein lies the problem - lack of depth - possibly due to McDermott wanting to play JJB/Delaney/Ablett every week if fit - despite numerous poor performances these three always get picked if fit enough. No point developing youngsters if the coach isn't prepared to give them game time on a regular basis
JJR may not have been special but he cannot have been worse than Ablett has been all year and JJB against Wakefield. If is the criteria by which you select you side e.g. Golding then it should be applied to everyone else other wise it isn't equitable.

If he always wanted to play Ablett, Delaney and JJB in the back row and thus not have stronger competition then why sign an England international in Ferres (granted he hasn't worked out in hindsight but the point stands)

To cover for injuries and when he wanted two second rows on the bench?

I highly doubt Ferres was signed as just injury cover although we've never really had a period where all 5 of Ward, Ferres, JJB, Ablett and Delaney have all been fit at the same time since Ferres signed to see how we'd line up.
Personally think the criticism of JJB is a touch unfair. He was awful last week as a 2nd rower but at loose he's played well I think but suffers from poor rotation of subs and if he came off at the 25/30 mins and back on around 55/60 mins I'd be happy still playing him or even coming off the bench at the half hour mark. I think Delaney did well against Wigan on his return and has played well earlier in the year when fit.
Don't expect much from Ferres now in the remainder of the season because even if he gets back from injury he won't have the time to pick up fitness or form, if he stays we'll have to hope he can have a good and healthy off preseason but I don't really think he's brought into the clubs ethos since signing and it's just another club for him. Ablett is almost going down the Briscoe route of looking lost out there. I'd guess that switching JJB to 2nd row last week was done solely for Ablett and not JJB (partly why I fell sorry for JJB).
I'd think about getting rid of one of Ferres or Ablett at seasons end. If you can find two quality 2nd row replacements then both but might be tricky to find that at this time. JJB still offers something is used better, Delaney I think still plays well, granted injuries but at around 4th choice 2nd row if you can get 15 games out of him it's not all that bad.

Talking of which doesn't look like much in the south stand which could be removed as souvenirs. Thought of taking a petrol disc cutting wheel to remove that metal barrier that I leant on for donkeys years. On reflection can't see the stewards tolerating that . Life goes on but I can't see the new stand capturing the same spirit that exists in the existing stand. Likewise with new grounds. I used to love going to Central Park although we never seemed to be successful at that ground. It's not the same at wigans new ground.

no but time moves on and the fans can make the new stand have its own story.

Was explaining that to my manager today who had a similar suggestion after recalling how he was at the last match at the old Wembley and describing how people were going for seats whilst the match was still playing.
Bet someone might try make a play for the SouthStanders bar sign.

Obviously not happy with last weeks performance but as the previous two weeks showed a lot can changed in 7 days. It's a shame we can't find the consistency to put on a run of performances like the Wigan but we are at a tricky period at the club and hopefully we are taking steps forward, we certainly have responded ok to last years showing.

| JJB playing SR is a bad choice in my opinion. I'd have him playing impact stints at LF.
Apart from that, the team is as good as it can be going with what we've got.
