| IIRC, David Quick's best bit of play was to get himself sent off early in a game agasint Stains at HQ for an appalling high shot.
This forced Schoey to move to scrum half and he had a stormer as we destroyed them with only 12 men.

That remains one of my favourite ever games. HamShank sent off after 2 mins, Schoey and Dave Heron were awesome at s/half and s/off. Phil Ford got a hat trick, John Bentley scored a beauty and we wwon 50-14.
Richard Gunn was one of the subs. Remember him? Was gonna be a world beater when we signed him but couldn't oust Colin Maskill as our no. 1 hooker.

| Gunn was signed as a LF IIRC, and had arguably the most ridiculously large shoulder pads I've ever seen.
Always gave 100%, but sharing the 9 jerey was a good as it got.
Often wondered whether he would have blossomed if he'd signed junior forms with a different club.

Very, very clever player at LF.
Bit like a number of juniors at Leeds are finding out at the moment though, it's hard to shift established, talented players ahead of you in the pecking order sometimes.
Had he gone elsewhere I've no doubt he would have made a more prestigious career for himself - you don't get to be England schools captain by not being able to play.

I don't think he wasted that much time at Leeds before returning to his coal mining roots with Featherstone.
I know it's a strange thing to say (what with Sinfield in situ) but I never thought he was big enough for loose forward.

| Fascinating article, the bottom one.
Gunn & Edwards at centre for England Schoolboys RU.
I also recall watching Cusworth & Barley (Wakefield RU I think) playing for the full England team.
Regarding Gunn, didn't Leeds try to turn him into a hooker because of his lack of size to be a no. 13?

| Wasn't he sometimes named as Richard 'Mackay'-Gunn?
As for obscure Leeds players - Steve Parrish. Signed him from us in about 1993. Started at Bradford Northern in the early 80's before ending up at Mount Pleasant and semi-igniting his career. Think he only played 3 or 4 games at best for you.

Great hair. The prototype for Jamie Langley wasn't he?

And with a terrific perma-tan to boot. A well known poseur of his time.
Weird how he started off as a regular in the top flight with Bradford, ended up playing for Batley in what was a really poor side during the late 80's, before ending up back in the top flight with Leeds!
A good player who maybe thought he was a bit better than the reality.
