There were a handfull left in Leeds, we used to make special trips to them, around '78 or so we bought a copy of the CAMRA guide - there was I believe only one pub in Leeds in it, The Eagle at Sheepscar.
There was a whole chapter for Bradford and the Halifax section just said "all of them"'"
Ah, The Eagle Tavern. Happy memories of that place, but have you seen it these days? What a dump it is. Tragic when you consider how good it once was.

| Its probably 25 years since I last went in there, I recall a heaving pub full of genuine beer drinkers - this is probably a good time to mention The White Stag next door - my great grandfather was the landlord there in the days when he used to brew his own beer.

| The White Stag used to do cracking lock-ins...erm...allegedly! Had many a good night in there.
I also bought my first pint in the Woodman, again, long before my 18th...again, allegedly.

| Seems like a few of you are from the Leeds 16 area , did any of you go to Iveson House junior school ? I got my 1st season ticket for Headingley there, it cost 10 shillings.John Atkinson was a former pupil and used to live just over the road.

I am LS16, but I did junior school in the North West, then straight to Prince Henrys in Otley.

Are you thinking of The Woodman/Woodcock, something like that? It was further down York Road and was demolished when they put the fly-over in that comes into Leeds.

That's the one. It was the woodpecker junction as well. For some reason I can never remember the name of the place. Am I right in thinking that was one of the regular haunts of the Monday club, featuring Schofield, Creaser, et al?
