| Quote: Gotcha "Age should never be the factor in a shirt obtained. That is the whole point. Ability should be the only decider, and that should be compared to his competition in a matchday 17.
If you don't have the ability, and your competition are much better than you, then there isn't an argument. But if you still want that player to get to the level, then he needs the competition adequate to attain it.'"
So what is the problem then? You've just said that the fact that he is 20 is irrelevant.
He wasn't really ready until this year. He didn't exactly pull any trees up on Boxing Day. He looks good, but is still very green.

Did I or did I not reply to a statement about Hunslet? that is all that needs answering. If you can't understand the difference with that and Leeds, then your problem mate.

I thought the statement was really more in reference to the situation with Leeds loaning him out to Hunslet?

| Quote: El Diablo "It isn't just that though. Why are there so few 20 year old props? I would suggest that the reason is the stress that the collisions that are the bread and butter role of a prop forward (even in an age where RL players are getting increasingly homogenous, that biff-up-the-middle role still exists) put a huge strain on the body and most people don't finish the main musculo-skeletal development until their early 20s. So even if you're good enough and apparently able to do it at 19, it might not be a good idea to do it too often. You don't have to watch loads of Championship and junior grade RL to see that the Championship is a level of physicality down in terms of speed of impact, and junior grades a level further back.
There is a long term game to be played here. What you're advocating amounts, to my mind, to impatience.'"
You can suggest it all you like. The last few years will tell us, if you are good enough elsewhere then you get the shirt.
The best props this country has produced, bar Peacock, started their careers at a young age, younger than Singleton.
Experience does not come with age, it comes with playing time.
Stating a prop does not reach is peak until 28, is a nonsense statement, if you have player A who started at 18, and player B who started at 26.
Where would the Burgess's have been now had they not debuted at a young age. Coincidentally, three of them leaving Leeds due to a belief of lack of opportunities.
Did James Graham have to earn his spurs in the Championship until he was over 20 to play in super league?
Yes, some players do not develop until late. Usually they have already been playing in a different position, and that extra body mass involves them switching positions. Even Ian Kirke was a centre when we signed him. A lot of props in this game do not start out as props.

Actually it was to do with the dual registration, but thank you, someone not trying to make up rubbish and can differentiate between posts. Never a mention about game time at Leeds, untill one poster brought it up.

I am, in fact, phenomenally good at making up rubbish. But I usually try to avoid it as a debating tactic.
Much of the rubbish I post on here is actually offered in good faith.

So what do you think Singleton is disillusioned with?

Again, I didn't even say he is dissillusioned, I said has felt. Past tense.
This is the thing about jumping to conclusions to try and get one over. Not you I am getting at by the way.
He was disillusioned with having no option but to go out to Hunslet, and having to wait for unjuries before he is given an opportunity, feeling it was a long wait from making his debut. That is what comes across to me in that interview.

Sorry Gotcha but you've completely lost me
Are you saying he was disillusioned at Leeds but not now? because you wrote [i"That would have some merit, if I had ever said he was dissallusioned at Leeds"[/i
It was Leeds making him go to Hunslet and not picking him for the first team

He's now trying to imply that Singleton was completely dissalusioned with being on dual Registration at Hunslet. He's trying to imply that doesn't mean Singleton was dissallusioned with leeds. As if Leeds had nothing to do with the decision to send him to Hunslet.
It's fog knitting at it's best.
He says some stupid stuff but is then very clever at knitting his way out.

Listen, and apologies sincerely if I have this wrong, but I think you are just taking the mickey now
Clear, I have not said or intimated that he felt disillusioned playing at Leeds. I have said that interview came across has though he felt disillusioned (past tense), in being out on dual reg rather than playing at Leeds. I further stated that the comment about playing each week at Hunselt, rather than coming across as a positive, was an after though as he followed up by saying, not like he had anyhere else to play.

| I read Singleton's description of the actual quality of Championship vs U20s (let alone U19s) as the CHampionship simply better preparation for SL. His happiness or otherwise with being played there is irrelevant. Is any player ever going to be happy NOT playing first team?
Given that all SL clubs should be developing their own talent and have no reserve teams, there will always be a very limited number of SL loan spots available (shortly to fall significantly as 2 clubs disappear). That means that right now for most players who hit 19 who are not first team regulars the only option is the Championship.
That in turn will mean every year some kids leaving every SL club. We saw it at the end of last season, and will again this year. The hope is that clubs firstly spot and retain the right young players, and that as many of the rest as possible stay in the game - whether in the Championship directly or via a stint in Aus.
