| Quote: Backwoodsman "Worryingly we have lost our last two games to sides that are well coached and extremely motivated. Neither of these sides will feature in the top four play offs. So that unfortunately that is our our standard at the moment. I thought we had the the basis of a good side in which to build on. Unfortunately at the moment that seems a distant memory. I don’t want smith to go mainly because a new coach would embark on a new round of bringing in new players. The risk of that failure being we would be back to square one. On the other hand I have absolutely no confidence In smith.'"
We’re not far off square one anyway! But I’d give Smith the chance to shape the squad he wants over next 18/12. We sooooo need to get back to basics though. Wish his uncle was here!

| Maybe Newman should start actually playing the game instead of wanting to show how hard he thinks he is all the time. Unreal talent, but a pest to go with it.

| Everything Smith is doing off the field is admirable - media, recruitment, retention, clearing dead wood, back room staff. Everything we've been asking for years.
But it's not transferring to results on the pitch and more importantly performances. We don't even look like winning.
That's a big problem. How long does it go on?
We have to give him the full season, nothing to be gained by sacking him mid-season as we won't get relegated, but if we finish 8th or lower he will be gone at the end of the year.
Once the fans and potentially players start to turn, there's no way back.
We're not only way behind the top 4, we're behind Salford, HKR and Leigh.
The standard in SL has definitely dropped this year.
The fact that the best 2 teams this year finished 11th and 8th last year tells you everything.
Hull play Wakey next. We play Wigan and Saints.
In a couple of weeks, we'll probably be 10th and out of the CC, which is about right.

I think very talented, but not seen the ‘unreal’ part. Is very overrated on current form, needs to get good head down and go back to basics imho. Just like the whole team….

The things you mention at the beginning don’t happen overnight, yes fans might be impatient but quick fixes have got us into this in the first place.
Absolutely pointless letting Smith do the recruitment for next year to sack him at the end of this one.
We will be in the playoffs at the end if the year anyway imo

He needs to start to love the game not himself.

But it's also pointless keeping a coach who brings in all his own players to finish in the bottom 4

How do you know unless you let the coach stay
I dread to think what this place would have been if we had been in Warringtons position last year. Look at them now

| The difference for me was the intensity. You have the attacking skills, as demonstrated by the Myler try, but didn't have same attitude as the likes of Leigh, Salford, WIgan. THere was a scrum about 3/4 through when you were still in the game, but the players just ambled up to it, rather than show slap each other on the back and gee each other up. The difference with Wigan's players attitude in defeat on Thursday was huge.

Very well put.
Interesting to hear the views of other teams fans as you see it through a different lens, without the emotion.
Apart from the small group of idiots who just post brainless goading comments when we lose of course....
We have the skill and ability but lack the intensity, passion and desire.
And watching the likes of HKR and Leigh, that can count for a lot.

Newman us a talent but is overrated, someone wants to have a word with him, he can go on yo be one if the best, or an irritating twerp along the likes of Jake Connor.

No inside knowledge just a gut feeling.
He is constantly moaning at either the ref or his own players and without doubt has the talent but needs to stop believing all the hype and get his head down and play the game.
Like someone else said he could soon become the next Jake Connor.
My feeling is he will go to the NRL or possibly Union.

Don’t think he’s done enough to get that type of gig, so he might get a shock if he does want out!

| I also think Newman could be in the NRL next season if he stays fit.
Problem is that our 3/4's rarely do well over there (with the very odd exception).
Their pool are bigger, more athletic and more skillful.
