| Quote Andy Gilder="Andy Gilder"The best ball Watkins is going to get is direct from the halves, rather than from a wide running second rower. The key to getting him good ball is to get the likes of JJB, Achurch, Delaney etc out of his way and have him pick good lines off the ball-players.'"
Yep, the best thing for one of our best attacking players is to have to beat his opposite number and the 2nd row stood inside, or the halfback stood outside depending on the set up.
RL is a numbers game at heart. Beating one man is tough, beating two is almost never done. Draw the man and pass.

| Quote Andy Gilder="Andy Gilder"Doesn't matter where Cuthbertson, Delaney and Achurch qualify for or get passports for. They're not federation trained, so still count towards that quota alongside Moon.'"
Yep. They'd still count towards the non-federation trained quota but those with EU passports (plus some South Sea Island nations) would be exempt from the Overseas Quota.
I make it:
Non-Federation Trained (Max of 7)
Moon
Aiton
Delaney
Achurch
Cuthbertson
(Leuluai is exempt because he was here when the rule was brought in)
Overseas Quota (Max of 5)
Moon
Aiton
Delaney
Leuluai
Unless any of those 4 have an EU passport etc in which case they'd be exempt. I'd heard Delaney was taking a British citizenship test, may be wrong but if we're wanting more than 1 NRL signing for next season it might be true.

| Their's a story just up on the YEP about Delaney training to be an electrican (with some other SL players) so it could that he sees himself staying in the UK and I think he's coming up to being here long enough to qualify for citizenship.

And yet at Hull he drifted inside, hit a line off a ball-player in the middle of the field and went on to finish.
Watkins doesn't necessarily need an overlap creating for him, with his speed and footwork he can embarrass players in space. What he does need though are well-delivered passes and with the greatest respect to some of Leeds back-rowers they aren't going to provide them.

Fully agree that Watkins is good enough to create from nothing and Hull was a prime example but those instances are fairly rare. Most often he is in the centre position. It makes most sense to work out how to get him good running ball and 1-1 with his opposite number from the position he spends most of his time in wouldn't you say?
Getting him to take the ball either further in field where traffic Is heavier and he's more likely to get hammered by forwards or 1-2 out wider doesn't make sense on a regular basis.

| Quote Mookachaka="Mookachaka"What do you think about putting Watkins at 6? He is like the British Greg Inglis / Darren Lockyer, could play anywhere in the backline really. I feel he's wasted at centre sometimes, doesn't get enough ball.'"
He needs to improve on his passing to play in the Halves. I thought he had a good game playing at Full Back in the WCC at Headingley.

| TBF this is the kind of signing we should be making. Some of the most unheralded signings turn out to be the best, granted there is going to be quite a bit of chaff to be separated from the wheat but im sure with the right training, application etc we could bring on any player with the right attitude.
Vainakolo was languishing in the reserves when Bratfud brought him over and Kylie hasn't turned out to be a bust has he?
Signing up NRL "Stars" is going to be very hard and expensive, but with the right scouting, we can possibly snag some rising talents before the mega money enters into it.

| I have a couple of contacts at Cas and although confirmed the rumours, bit were insistent that nothing has happened with Burrow down there. Either damn good liars keeping things secret, or it is just a rumour again.
Also confirmed to me that Cameron Smith has agreed a massive deal to sign for Leeds when 16. The biggest deal of any junior currently playing. For me I think Leeds did the right thing.

| My contact at Leeds also said no deal agreed by Burrow. But may still happen.

| I've also heard that at the mean time, the Burrow to Cas is still just a rumour, but seeing his reaction at the end of the Cas game he looked frustrated with only getting on for the final 15 mins so I really do expect that move to happen this season.
Today at the match talking to some people they questioned why would he go to Cas when Leeds offers a better chance of winning trophies in his final years. But I said fair play to the guy (if he does go).....he's won all he can win at this level, he could stay around for a couple of seasons and win things by playing 20/30 mins cameos.....or he can just enjoy playing every minute possible at another club.
You see guys in football move to the big clubs and spend most weeks on the bench and they might make 10/12 subsitute appearances and 'earn' themselves a Premiership medal......so fair play to a guy who could possibly be prepared to give up trophy winning chances just to be able to play the sport he enjoys for 80 mins every week. You have to tip your hat to him in that regard IF the move to Cas does happen.
