Yes, that was the issue with Bird, and GH correctly got nowhere with it. It probably is a bit of an unfair advantage for Catalans, but if you sign up for an international competition (which the Super League just about is) you have to expect that teams within that competition can employ players according to the laws of their country, not yours.

I don't see English clubs picking and choosing who can play for Porto in the Champions League because their young South Americans wouldn't get a UK working visa.

If Carney had a ban from the sport that would be a different matter, but as an immigration issue GH has absolutely no right to interfere.

The point is Carney has been sacked by how many Clubs and had how many issues he is a serial offender!
Add in the fact the Giants had an agreement to sign him but were denied by Visa issues then why should Catalan be allowed to sign him?
SL is not Football on any level so the comparison is irellevant if a player is not eligable for ALL teams in this comp then he shouldn't be for one!
Whether it will prevent him signing or not is another matter but its a fair point to raise no matter how good a player he is.
Also comparisons with players already here is irrelevant they are obviously eligible for all teams once they have served their respective bans etc.

Just to add I do hope GH is putting 100% into the end of season inquest after a p!$$ poor 2nd half to the regular SL rounds culminating in a deserved early play off exit.
These are much bigger issues than whether or not a serial sh## head should be allowed to play for the French when he isn't eligible for the rest of the SL.
