Brian Mac who caused the hole we have and are in? Without a doubt.

McLennan was a great coach for us, so much better rugby than your idol.'"
I know plenty on here have an agenda against McDermott. I would criticise what happened towards the end of his tenure and you’d think BM has at least some culpability there.
However if he’s not in the club’s top three I’m this months Play Mate.

Never mind the same poster also described Handley as the worst winger in SL a few weeks ago. Called into the GB train on squad today.'"
Top of the try scoring list, in a bottom 4 side all sass scored some great individual efforts as well not all handed on a plate by Hurrell as some are making out, only just 23, him and Hurrel could be most potent attack in super league next year.
Is Handley a world beater probably not, is he our best winger? Yes. Is he in the top 4-5 British wingers at the moment? Yes.
he the least of our squad problems at the moment, had a cracking season.

McLennan cant possibly be above Roy Francis either?

I suppose it's very easy to forget a coach that won 4 Grand Finals,1 League Leaders Shield,2 Challenge Cup Finals & 1 World Club Challenge If you've got an agenda against him
He also delivered a Treble winning season in 2015 with an ageing and past it's best side and then also delivered a Grand Final master class against the standout SL side by a mile in 2017 by hammering Castleford at Old Trafford
Like him or loathe him but facts can't lie and Brian McDermott is the Rhinos best ever coach, even if he is a former Bulls player Gotcha

Honesty mate before my time, I was a Doug Laughton love child.
I liked Bluey but he didn’t really last long.
What is fair to say is we will need another one in this general bracket to get back to winning trophies again.
It’s funny with McDermott. Some people just don’t like the bloke and deny his record despite all rational evidence.

| Bluey inherited tony smith's side. The golden generation around their peak. If you listen to players interviews it seems they liked him but his coaching was a bit limited.
Brian McDermott tainted his legacy with his involvement in running the team into the ground, and he should have left 2017 at the latest if he had no idea how to rebuild. But quite simply he's the most successful coach in our club's history. That's what future generations will see. They'll care zip for the ramblings of a few fans on here.

| I don't think there is a single Leeds player who would rank McClennan above McDermott as a coach. He was a motivator but once you got beyond that McClennan had little to offer. He was fine for a point in time when the players almost coached themselves but was never going to work for the longer term.
But some people on here know best

| There's a difference between "most successful" & "best" Coach. Murray for example built a squad with a no nonsense Tough pack with some quality & flair in the backs but Harris aside it had no other "Superstars" that side was brilliant to watch & imo had GM stayed woukd gave won more. Tony Smith gelled our Golden generation with some astute recruits & started our greatest ever era & although stuttered at times again id wager we'd have win more under him had he stayed.
Bluey was the right man at the right time with a quality squad to call upon.
McD his Trophy record was 2nd to none he broke the CC hoodoo & come play off time we went up another level but his squad management on a week to week & match day basis was abysmal and imo he didnt improve 1 single player.
Growing up i enjoyed watching David Wards Team play & would have preferred him to be given the money Laughton got to spend.

Great post - agree with pretty much it all - I'm guessing we're of a similar age and started watching Leeds as a kid in mid-80's.
The only part I'd question is around McD not improving 1 player - think that's a harsh assessment. Without really thinking about it, I'd say Hall, Watkins, Ablett, Delaney (and I'm sure if I really put some effort in, I could think of others) all improved their game over the years with McD at the helm. Whilst natural talent obviously plays a big part, it would be naive to think McD didn't play a part.

| It is absolutely imperative that Leeds do their homework and bring in an experienced coach who can start the job of molding the team back into a force. Though i dont expect Leeds to be instantly back and dominating I also dont want to see the meek excuse for a team that we saw when the chips were down earlier this season, with senior players uninterested, squad unrest and poor attitude all round.
To his credit, Agar came in, steadied the ship and got the team out of its death spiral to kept us afloat... just. For this he needs to be commended, he came in and got the job done as asked. Whether he is the correct "man for the job" will be decided at the clubs end of season review.
The appointment of the coach is the single most important signing we will make this off season, it shows just how far back it sets you when the wrong choices are made. Whoever it was who suggested getting a sports psychologist in is a spot on idea also.

| Handley is bang average, but credit to him for improving his hands this year. Put his try scoring down to Hurrell inside him, pretty obvious that.

| Flanagan has just been told by the NRL that he still cant come back there in 2020, so you'd assume he'll be up for a SL gig. He'd certainly be my pick.
A slightly left field one, Danny Buderus has just quit his role at Newcastle over how they've handled the Nathan Brown sacking. Wouldn't be my choice, but would fit with the 'jobs for the old boys' culture we have. That being said, he's got a cushy media job too, so he'd probably not want it.
