The issue of who gets selected depends on the combination of the coach how good the kids are. McDermott certainly tended to go for the old hands at the drop of a hat, but if a new coach was given the job of rebuilding the side over say two or three years they might be far more willing to give kids a go - not to mention if they're completely new to the club they would have no particular connection to JJB or anyone else and would presumably judge players on merit.

That's what Graham Murray did, several got replaced and where out of favor, pure performance was what mattered, Barrie mac could not get a gig for first year under Murray as his performances where not up to scratch. the likes of Tony kemp graham Holroyd where moved on.

Powell took a similar approach aswell even clearing out players he was team mates with.
Thats what we need now a clear plan with plenty of the old guard thanked & moved on along with the fringe who arent good enough.

We can't swap half a squad in one off season though, so we're likely to have to bear with a number of current players who aren't up to scratch for at least another year. In the salary cap world I reckon 5 additions from outside (with 5 leaving) is about as many as you can manage. Not to mention that if you change too many in one go there won't be much of a team spirit off field or understanding on the field either (see London Broncos every year in SL, or Leeds in the 80s).

The way Leeds play i.e. very off the cuff the understanding on the field is not as important as say at Wigan where their attack is more structured.

That doesn't leave much. Not much at all, especially with Hall and Moon leaving as well. We'll struggle next year whatever, but without a new coach and a couple of decent signings and a solid pre-season where we adapt our playing style to what we've got we will be bottom 4 again.

With a decent coach in charge who can hopefully freshen up our ideas I think we'll look better.

Yes we need new blood, that's a given but also maybe a freshening up of the conditioning corps is in order too.
We look horrible fitness wise, which is odd as we always usually look fresh around this time of year.
