| Worst robbery of all time if we "stole" Croft and Ackers for 300k. Must be the same universe where Martin signed a shorter contract for less money on the off chance of winning something with KR.
Sad to see Rhyse go. A quality player amongst so much dross we've signed from the NRL. And not much of a track record when we signed him either, just 25 games by 25 years old. Just goes to show there are gems around if you do the research - or more likely in this case we just got lucky. Infinite monkeys and typewriters and all that...
This really has the feel of Blease and Arthur recognizing the need to massively boost the physicality of the pack, and having to go to the NRL to do that. I'm sure Martin woul;dn't have been the first choice overseas player to leave after Fusitu'a, but we need the spots. He's really suffered from us being so overloaded in quota backs (for not a huge return). I'm sure Lisone would also have been a preferred release for an upgrade, but he's under contract...
Regardless, all the best to Rhyse.

| You are Martin - you have maybe 2/3 years left at this level.
Looking at that time span and the current state of both clubs which would you suggest is more likely to be competing for silverware in that time span?
Leeds have a number of deadwood players that have another year to run on their contracts and they have a coaching horizon of one year. Leeds will improve next season but will they be able to improve the quality of the squad sufficiently to be challenging? Hull KR have quality coaching stability and a team on the up and with recruits like Martin they can build on a solid foundation.
Martin's comments are fully justified and do show a degree of logic in them.

| A few bitter Leeds fans on here who don't appear to be able to deal with the fact that KR are currently a better proposition than Leeds for the chance of winning trophies. It is quite understandable Martin deciding that he was done with playing for an average Leeds team for a few years and trying his hand at a team playing much better currently.

| Fair play to him if he wants to leave. He's already won a CC and played in a GF with Leeds, and when he signed the deal with KR, Leeds were in a mess and didn't have Arthur, so most players would do the same in his position. Good luck to him.

| Been great to watch over the last few years, and seems a decent bloke too. All the best to him for the rest of his career, I'm sure he'll do really well at KR.
Whether it's a massive loss or not, we'll only find out once we've replaced him. Rhys is the epitome of an all-rounder. His goal kicking is obviously huge, but he's also got some lovely subtleties to his game that our other BR's don't. One of the bigger things though is he has a fantastic injury record and rarely misses games. Our next two signings in the pack need to have similar injury record otherwise we might struggle going into 2025 with Gannon and Bentley alongside McDonnell in the BR.

| No problem with Martin leaving. Good luck to him.
We just need to replace him with a powerful back rower.
But anyone who thinks he is going for less money and / or a shorter contract is totally deluded.
A player in his 30's is looking for one thing with potentially their final contract.
Financial security.
That is usually with length of contract.
And I simply don't believe any player with an offer on the table would move teams for less money.
No-one on here will know with any certainty, but I suspect Leeds offered him one year on similar money.
He wants 2 years and Rovers offered him it.
Sounds like it was decided weeks ago when Rovers were in 4th or 5th, so I doubt anyone was getting too excited about them winning anything at that point.
So, him moving there for trophies is nonsense.

Length of contract being the primary factor is my take too. Everything else is just noise.

| It's true that Rhyse Martin agreed to join Hull KR several weeks ago before Blease and before Arthur. Rovers wanted to announce the departure of an overseas player first but it was a done deal some time ago.
The money is not a big factor he is well paid but not marquee at Leeds and the same will be true at Hull KR. Rhyse has a 2 year deal at Rovers I know Leeds wanted to keep him and I am surprised that at just 31 and still playing well if Rhinos were only prepared to offer 1 year.
If indeed Leeds were only prepared to offer 1 year whilst Rovers offered 2 then clearly Rovers wanted him more.
It's also true that Rovers have not won a major trophy for 39 years and in that time Leeds Rhinos have won....well quite a few! But with 4 games remaining in the regular season Rovers are top and maybe the wait is nearly over. Maybe.
If it isn't then the club will try again next year with an even better squad including Rhyse Martin. The club is in rude health off the pitch with most of the top local businessmen on board and the club have recently taken up the option of buying 15 acres of surrounding land having bought the stadium last year.
The club did it's sums before taking up the option of buying the 15 acres but now has plans for retail units and housing which they believe will provide a substantial income. And crowds are selling out every week (admittedly only 10k capacity) with the club needing to expand to 11k next year to accommodate demand.
Are you interested in all this I don't suppose so. But Hull Kingston Rovers are now a major player in Super League and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. That's why players like Rhyse Martin are attracted.

I don't think anyone has said good riddance etc. Posts on here are wishing him well, as is only right. Where we do agree is that he has been a model professional and his replacement needs to be top drawer.

Really good for the game that clubs like HKR are flexing their muscles and making an impact. A more competitive league, outside of the usual suspects, can only be positive. More competitive games that actually mean something in the context of any given season are a positive.
