| Edwards would have been hilarious as Wigan coach. An odious little crap with no head coaching experience. Needs a head coach to keep him in his ways. Will never be back in league.

Agreed, its quite obvious he totally bottled it, realised he wasn’t up to the job at Wigan and went for the easy option.

Either that or realised he could get 5 x the salary coaching England RU after the World Cup.

Plus completely inexperienced in modern RL. I did have absolutely loved it if he’d taken up the role.

Which is fine, but perhaps not parading himself in wigan attire on the wigan pitch in front of the Media before making that decision would have been a better thing to do.

| I’d take Edwards over most of the others mentioned. He's a brilliant defence coach and adored by the kick and clap brigade. He had great success as a head coach at Wasps. And don’t forget he was a brilliant playmaker at Wigan.

I agree he is a serial winner was brilliant at wasps and with the pace Wigan have in the backs I reckon he would have been a success.
SL does not look awash with intelligent, inspired coaches to me. Over half the sets appear to be 5 drives and a bomb/grubber/roll it into touch, you hardly need Einstein to coach that.

Do you know him personally? No? So why make personal comment ?
If you knew anything about him you would have known he was head coach of Wasps for 6 years during which time they won the Championship, Anglo Welsh Cup and Heineken Cup.
He is highly regarded by players and most pundits as pne of the best coaches in world rugby union. He was voted Rugby World International Coach of the Year on 2008.
The only thing you are remotely right about is that he is unlikely to return to League but only because we cannot afford him!

| Surprise surprise something involving union and deckchair boy comes posting, thinking he knows it all.
For his information yes I did know the odious little crap personally, and take great pride in coming out on top of a couple of run ins many moons ago.
Bit strange that only last week it was claimed Furner was a rookie for coaching, and here we are completely contradicting himself now.
Like I said I would like to see him back in league, just not at Leeds, as it would be hilarious. The equivalent of Woodward to Southampton, and Harbin to Crystal Palace. Edwards knows nothing of the modern game of rugby league, and doubt he would ever have made anything close to a career coaching in league, had he gone that route.
I think there is a lot of posters who only know since super league, because if you think Wane is anti Leeds, you should see this chump. Very lucky to have had the coaching career he has had, where many ex league player/coaches have done an equal job in Union, never to get offered roles in league again.
The last thing this club needs right now is inexperience, especially with an ego. We need proven experience, we need toughness, we need an ability to make possible unpopular decisions, and someone who knows the game. That is easier with someone without an history in our club, and has the cv to back up the things he says.

| I always thought Wigan were taking a gamble going for Edwards. I thought it was more for the publicity it would bring

| i thought it was a huge gamble. he is certainly a person who divides opinion, certainly the bulls players disliked him intensely, never passing to him if they didn't have too

| If we're putting forward some 'out there' candidates, what about Stuart Lancaster? He's built a great reputation in Union over the last few years, and is a fan of RL with ties to club.

| I haven’t said anything on this matter yet and just been looking and listening.
I am genuinely gutted for Furner, this wasn’t his fault at all. He hasn’t been in control at all. Sinfield for me is the problem and Hetherington. As much as Sinfield is a legend he is doing what Peacock did at Hull and what Cunningham at St Helens. He has orchestrated huge signings but not sorted the rest of the team. Put doubts in other players heads by pretty much putting them on the market. Our main issue is weak defence, not even weak, horrendous. Under 14’s could get through. We have never been a club to throw money at problems. But in recent years the decisions have been terrible. Our Golden generation has never been replaced just lived in shadow of. Most of our players don’t deserve to pick up their wage never mind be in the team. But letting Furner take the rap is sad. Personally I would like a British coach. Throwing money at this problem isn’t going to sort it out, we need to go back to basics and players need to want to proud to wear the Leeds shirt again. Danny Ward is a good option, Wane is a great coach but our style doesn’t match, Marshall would be ok on a short term as the resources he has he are far better than we he has had, so maybe he could thrive. Agar is ok as an assistant but his past record shadows him. I love this club but things need to change, lastly, not even phoning Lilley to say he wouldn’t be extended is completely unfair and out treating of Golding. Also if we lost to Bradford today and that is a big possibility, proves that relegation is not that far.

You say the Sinfield and hetherington are the problem not Furner, then say defence is our biggest problem, well that's Furners fault he coached theside and the appalling defence.
Golding has been treated appallingly but thats due to Furner point blank not wanting him, back in the side today chance to stake his claim.
There is very little possibility we will lose to Bradford, win by 40 + points. Reagation was looking a real possibility under Furner hence he has been removed. Awfull coach, he will never get a head coaches Job ever again outside Aussie park football.
