what a cowardly thing.
drop a kid after one poor game, in which others were as bad, but ignore older players like Albert who's not played well in 2 years.
sooner he goes the better

The way I see it, the competition for a place at fullback is v strong. With walker ready to step in (also in form- arguably in better form than Golding this year). And in McDermott's interview, the way I interpreted it, the decision was as much about giving walker his opportunity when the player in front of him isn't performing, than just dropping Golding for bad form.

The forwards were very poor last week, but who you gunna replace them with with all the injuries we have in those positions ? Ablett for Walters, JJB for baldwinson? Not for me.

And this then comes back to a bigger issue, our lack of strength in depth. But that's another thread

Also, unless I've missed something, this argument about McDermott falling out with garbutt and his players, all came from Frosties saying he can't help but think there's more to it, than just an injury? This may be true, but if that's all the evidence we're going on (one person's hunch-no offence to Frosties for throwing out an opinion) then other posters should be allowed to say they think it's nonsense.

Quote: Charlie Sheen "Can't say I'm fussed about Golding being dropped. He was arguably the worst player last week, and Walker has been breathing down his neck.
Yes, some of the forwards deserve to be dropped as well, but we're hardly blessed with much depth there at the moment with Garbutt, Galloway and Ferres injured. Plus, Golding doesn't have a decade worth of credit in the bank that the likes of Ablett and JJB be in particular have.'"

How will he ever get a decades worth of credit in the bank if the first time he has an under par game he gets dropped?

McDermott has always been thus - he has favourites who he will not drop and that is the way it is - JJB was appalling on Thursday I suspect he would have to have 8-10 games of that standard before McDermott would even consider a change.

I suspect the major criteria to getting picked is your deference to the coach - which is a pretty sad state of affairs

My one abiding memory of Golding at the Wakefield game ,is him trying to run the ball out from our own try line. Then facing a wall of Wakefield players who promptly smashed him back over our try line. Mission impossible ,even saint zac would have struggled under that scenario. At the Wakefield game he had virtually no support from his colleagues so it's sacrificial lamb time for him.

The difference between Walker and some of the forwards is that he's actually shown he can step up, and we was probably unlucky to not not keep his place in the side when Golding was fit again. The other options in the pack are either injured or way off SL level, and have even struggled to make an impact at Championship level.
Also, JJB has performed well this season up until last week, so by the same 'logic' he'd have been unlucky to miss out this week after one bad game.
Sure, Ablett has struggled for over a year, but who can we pick instead? Keinhorst? Walters?

I also notice that McDermott has said Golding and Walker know that they're fighting for the number one shirt next year, good to see IMO

Agree completely, JJR proved that he could handle the step up and deserves some game time.

EDIT: Just to add I also thought Ormondroyd had a decent game in the backrow against Wigan so it's not like we have no options other than Ablett and JJB.

Of course we're allowed, but we don't. JJR is a decent shout based on his Wigan performance, but he was pretty poor for Bradford earlier this season as well.

The issue why do we have competition at FB but not competition in the back row - could it be McDermott has decided that the likes of JJB, Delanney and Ablett will be selected so no point having more competition.

It seems barmy to me to give two players specialists in one position long term contracts - if Walker is the solution what is Golding going to do for the next 4 years?

The equivalent at 2nd to Walker is Cameron Smith and he's been poor at Bradford. JJR did ok vs Wigan but in the context of the lineup and overall performance and didn't sound nothing special at Bradford earlier. He tried dropping Briscoe for Handley but the latter didn't do well enough.

What a rediculous thing to say. Of course we are allowed. But with garbutt, Galloway and ferres injured, josh Walters useless, your left with ormandroyd, baldwinson, smith, oledski and JJR, who have 25 super league appearances between them, the fact is there ISNT competition for places.

I can't think of anyone on here who has said you're not allowed that competition, in fact I'd say everyone here would indeed want that.

With regards to walker and Golding, they're both young, fighting for one position. Golding is hardly an established first teamed himself. And walker has showed recently his form has been very good and was perhaps unlucky to have been dropped for Golding in the first place
